THE WILDLIFE OF AFRICA'S HEARTLAND...
AFRICAN WILDLIFE images by Craig Shelley. The photos are extensively in Africa and protrays Shelley's passion for the continent including all of its diverse species.
From Maasai Giraffes to mighty elephants and thick-skinned rhinoceroses from the migration of a million wildebeest to the clash of predator and prey on the grasslands...AFRICA hosts one of the most diverse and extensive arrays of wildlife on earth!
The survival of Africa's Wildlife depends on the conservation of wild lands laarge enough for animals to migrate, forage, feed and reproduce.
The loss of habitat is now the single biggest threat to the preservation of Africa's irreplaceable wild life species.
Thratened landscapes, forests cut down...etc.
Wetlands and swamps are drained...etc.
Grasslands are tilled...etc.

Tune in Saturday as I discuss Animal Sacrifice with Dr. Tom Erik Raspotnik of Temples of Satan. Do some Satanists actually commit sacrifice or is this a pop-culture meme? The Temples of Satan is a Theistic Satanic Temple and maintains charters and lodges under its covenant drafted in 2011. While members appear to be scarce, those that claim it also find shelter under religious freedom in America; which happens to include animal sacrifice!
Keep an eye on this topic as a follow-up show will be conducted with Melissa Colton - Goodwin who will present a dissenting view as an animal trainer and animal rights advocate.
This month, Suzane welcomes special guest, Linda Bender, DVM.
A passionate, animal advocate and educator, Dr. Linda Bender's love of the natural world began in her childhood backyard. From orphaned deer to blue jays prematurely bumped from their nests, animals in distress somehow found a way to her loving arms. Her innate rapport with animals inspired her to earn a doctorate in veterinary medicine.
During the fourteen years she spent living in England, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Linda’s veterinary work included the rescue, rehabilitation, and protection of wildlife, often in remote areas. Working with zoos in Southeast Asia, she treated animals rescued from the wildlife trafficking trade and helped reintroduce them back into their natural habitats. Among those given a second chance at life were clouded leopards, tigers, orangutans, and numerous species of rare psittacine and passerine birds. Working in the field with rarely encountered wildlife, she helped to develop treatment protocols.
For over twenty-five years, Linda has practiced meditation and studied many of the world’s wisdom traditions, including shamanism. Learning the traditions and ancient wisdom of indigenous people enriched her understanding of the sacred connection between humans, animals, and nature. These experiences helped shape her environmental consciousness and deepened her commitment to spirituality, conservation and animal advocacy.
A dedicated animal advocate and pro-active, grass-roots champion of animals both domestic and wild, Linda recently completed her first book, Animal Wisdom: Learning from the Spiritual Lives of Animals released in June of 2014. Her new book illuminates the undeniable ability for animals to restore our ecological, emotional and spiritual balance. Linda currently lectures and facilitates Animal Wisdom workshops worldwide.

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer, talks to the founders of LionAid.org, Dr. Pieter Kat and Christine Macsween to discuss new import regulations in the EU to protect our big cats and other species. LionAid.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of lions. Their mission is to create awareness about the huge decline of the lion population and work with government officials and other organizations to cease the legal hunting of these animals. Lions are a major trophy for hunters. Despite their well-documented decline, there is still a considerable trophy hunting effort. Since the last-published decline in lion numbers on the continent were made public in 2002-2004, over 4,400 lions have been exported as trophies. As such, trophies are largely male lions. The effect of this commercial activity has greatly impacted both overall lion numbers and the ability for remaining lions to reproduce. Trophy hunting must cease.
