Tonight's special guest is Emily Wallace (aka Tina Smith) abuse survivor and motivational speaker, inspirational author and expert seeking high representation for her unforgettable autobiography "Scarred for Life," an inspirational book which illustrates all of the struggles that Emily faced during her childhood. One day in 1980, Emily returned home from her every day learning environment, to find a house filled with nothing but emptiness. Her whole nuclear family (her mother and her siblings) were gone without a forwarding address. This was the same day that Emily endured emotional distrust and experienced her childhood being snatched away from her within moments. Scarred for Life narrates Emily's story, along with her thoughts, feelings, and emotions as she tried to succeed surviving on the streets. She tells of sleeping in vacant houses and under porches and experiencing child molestation by her older two brothers. She shares the stories of those who tried to help her and those who would not. Honest and shocking, Scarred for Life provides insight into the actual life of a little homeless girl and the horrors one can experience when living on the streets. Today, Emily is a mother of six, and wife of 20 years. She is an author and motivational speaker, who speaks to children about child abuse and bullying. She is currently working on her high school diploma at Hadley School for the Blind.
Many communities strive to address issues of poverty and economic development, but the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization (KOCO) has actively maintained a vibrant community despite the infusion of drugs, guns, unemployment, and home foreclosings. This week it celebrates 50 years of success in motivating residents to remain actively involved in the lives of youth, elders, and all residents who desire a clean, safe, self sustaining community with good schools. Jeanette Taylor Ramann discusses some of the work that KOCO is doing in reaching out beyond its borders to connect with children abroad and spread the success that comes with cooperation between neighbors.
Greg Miller, Author of "How I Reversed my Mom's Emphysema" joins us this week on The Best Years in Life Radio. Greg will talk about all aspects of COPD and how by using natural modalities, this condition can be eliminated.
During the first half hour, Tony will talk about new additions to the website and continue talking about future plans for the website and our radio show in the coming months.
During the second half hour, Luella will discuss chronic fatigue syndrome.

Welcome to the Heroes of Katrina: 10 Years After
Pets and Storms
The demographics and statistics are amazing. There are 2.5 animals (cats/dogs…etc. for every American home).
When a population of almost a million evacuates an area and is forced to leave their pets behind…the result is 2.5 million animals…homeless…ownerless…destitute. This was the situation during and after Hurricane Katrina. Indeed the animal issue was largely overlooked by all the rescuing agencies Federal and otherwise.
After Katrina, the animal population was largely overlooked within the rescue and aid infrastructure. All of the guests on Tuesday's show were on the ground and dedicated to the rescue of the animals left behind.
With hurricane season starting June 1st, this show is timely and hopefully can be used as a resource for the animal lovers of the Gulf Coast.
Please join us this very special evening as we welcome our returning guest, Award Winning Author Jenny Pavlovic. We will discuss an extremely important topic....preparing our beloved pets for a hurricane. Jenny Pavlovic, animal rescuer and author of the award winning book, “The 8 States of Hurricane Kate,” will share very valuable advice and insight regarding the necessary precautionary measures needed to safeguard our furry friends and all animal creatures BEFORE a hurricane strikes. Hurricane season is fast approaching - June 1 through November 30, 2015. It's not too early to listen and learn what to do in advance. Please don't wait until it's too late. Feel free to call in and share, comment, question, discuss with Jenny.

Tonight on The Charleston Comedy podcast we have guest comic Mikey Mason. Mikey will be at the Comedy Zone here in South Charleston this weekend. One show on Friday at 8 and two shows on Saturday 7 and 9! Tickets are just ten dollars!
Born in Kentucky and dragged throughout the south before settling in Indiana to be raised in a trailer, Mikey Mason has a diverse background to draw material from. With his abnormal childhood, five siblings, two marriages, two children, multiple pets, college experiences, and many career changes (ranging from fast food, to working at a funeral home, to teaching middle school, high school and college, as well as working with at-risk youth,) he's got a lot to talk-and sing-about.
Mikey went from performing in bands and sketch and improv. comedy troupes to performing standup over the last 15 years. He's performed at Crackers, the Comedy Caravan, Wiley's Comedy Nightclub, Snickerz Comedy Bar, Mason City Limits, Go Bananas, and One Liners, as well as many bars, clubs, fraternities, and private parties in and around the Midwest. He's performed with Todd Yohn, John Fox, Rob Haney, Lord Carrett, Steve Lott, Troy Davis, Chris Speyrer, Tracey Tedesco, and Tim Rowlands, among others, and has made multiple regional television and radio appearances. With a strong stage presence, infectiously hilarious songs, and a wit almost as fast as his mouth, Mikey is an unforgettable performer.
Mikey draws the audience in with his saucy, irreverent blend of storytelling and outrageous songs. No subject or musical style is off limits. From country to rock, pop to rap, religion to relationships, politics to childhood insecurities, Mikey is unabashed, unafraid, and unquestionably funny.
Many moons ago - before the invention of Ritalin or the Internet - a young, broke college student named Roberto Antonio Smiley signed up for a stand-up competition at his Student Union Building. The prize money was $500, which was nearly 5 months rent for the "efficiency" closet Smiley was living in at the time. Though he had never stepped on a stage, and the only prior laughs he had gotten were due to his colossal leprechaun ears, he went for the gold. When he arrived, his only competition was a grown man wearing an oversized sombrero with no act... so... he won the money and the tender hearts of his fellow students. The rest is history.
Since that incredibly average performance, Roberto shortened his name to "Bob" and started a caffeine-induced tour spreading laughter and gaiety to the masses. As a novice jokester, Smiley honed his talents as the merch-managing MC for bands like Newsboys, Third Day, and Mercy Me. This exposure, along with the fact that his act had the word "booger" in it three times, led to a swarm of goatee'd youth leaders begging Smiley to come entertain their sugar-high kid herds. He was forced to match their manic energy and soon developed a machine gun approach to comedy. Sixteen years later, Bob is now one of the nation's most in-demand and hilarious clean comedians. And he absolutely loves his job, no matter how many times his father challenges its legitimacy as a career choice...
