“White weddings weren’t always the norm in Western culture,” I Do Radio host Angela Chester explains in her series on connubial couture. “One of the first women to walk down the aisle in white was Mary Queen of Scots, when she married Francois II of France in 1558. Considered inauspicious, white was at that time the official color of mourning in France. It didn’t become popular until 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe. Victoria wore a white gown as a way to incorporate some lace from her own closet that she loved.”
Back-to-school can become more complicated in a co-parenting situation. With so much going on in both of your lives, it is difficult to keep it all together...after-school activities, sports, band, you name it.
As your children grow the requirements and demands of you will also change. Being proactive about their lives will allow you to stay in control of yours. As parents you'll be happy to know - a solution is out there.
Listen in as we talk: Back to school and co-parenting
Once it was unassuming. You got married, had kids, worked, and stayed married whether you could stand each other or not. The concept of "a happy marriage” was no more applicable than the idea of "a pretty barn." Many of today’s marriage are temperature sensitive - a cold marriage, filled with contempt and misery or a lukewarm marriage, (perhaps the worst) filled with pointless days, stagnant affection and detached intimacy.
So, what do couples who describe their marriages as remarkable do differently than those who describe their marriages as simply average?
Raising a blended family comes with its share of hurdles. In the United States, approximately one-third of all households are blended. With patience and a optimistic outlook, the blended family can be one filled with affection, respect, and appreciation.
It isn’t easy for the children when parents remarry. They are trapped in the middle of a situation that can cause immediate feelings of frustration and sadness.
It can be particularly hard to find the right balance when you’re a stepparent. Many adults try to blend their families with high expectations. Many think it will be similar to their previous marriage in terms of time spent with their spouse and the attentiveness they’ll be able to give the relationship. Unfortunately, this may not match your reality.
Every family has a different dynamic. The trick to making a blended family work is finding a new, combined dynamic that includes time spent together, discipline, and rules BOTH parties can live with.
Let’s look at 7 tips for creating a great blended family.
