Energy Management with Meryl Moritz, MCC

    in Self Help

Energy management is great for life and for functioning at work.  What people often complaint to coaches about is lack of time.  Dig a little deeper and you find that it is often something else: not prioritizing one's well being or what matters and trying to do it all.  Of course we run out of time but what if we had a source of 'clean energy?' What if we 'installed' and early warning system when our energy reservoir was running on the dry side and close to empty?  What would that look like?  What would be the benefit of experimenting with that?

Bobsledder Elana Meyers: Win or Lose, 'I'm in this Sport to Glorify God' (Gospel

    in Sports

She is an American bobsledder who has competed in the sport since 2007. She won the silver in the bobsled two-woman event with Shauna Rohbock at the 2009 FIBT World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. Named to the U.S. team in 2010, she along with Erin Pac won the bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. In 2013, she and brake-woman Katie Eberling won the silver at the FIBT World Championships in St. Moritz. She is currently competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Though she always dreamed of being an Olympian, it wasn't an easy road to get there. Before taking up bobsledding, she was the first softball recruit at George Washington University and quickly set nearly every offensive record. However, she said, "My sophomore year, our softball team was doing really badly and our season ended up getting canceled. So, that being the center of my life, I got really depressed. I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t know what my purpose was. I just started researching religions. Something inside of me told me I needed more than this." While reading a book about spiritual things over Christmas break, she became overwhelmed with emotion, and said of that time, "It hit me that Jesus is the way. I can’t explain it by anything other than that. It was so strong and powerful; I knew that I needed to change my life." When she returned to George Washington University, she began to understand what it means to be a Christ-follower. She joined Athletes in Action, began studying the Word, and growing in her faith.

In 2003, she was invited to try out for the 2004 Olympic softball team but the experience did not go well; she says she "crashed and burned." After retiring in 2007, she took up bobsledding and she has worked hard to become one of the top female bobsledders in the country....

    Undiagnosed: Medical Refugees

    in Health

"Undiagnosed:Medical Refugees" is a soon to be released documentary about the journey to find answers to undiagnosed medical problems.  My guest is Katia Moritz, Ph.D, ABPP, who is the inspiration and driver of this amazing story.
Katia's story is both heartbreaking and inspiring.    She has been searching for an answer to her sudden health decline after a simple and routine medical procedure.  Since that day, over three years ago, she has suffered from multiple debilitating symptoms resulting in hospitalizations, ongoing tests, and visits to many specialists throughout the country.  Throughout this time, she continues to try to maintain her energy to work, care for her family and keep her sights on finding answers.
Katia will tell her story and how the idea for the documentary evolved.  She realized she was not alone.  There were many people, young and old, worldwide in similar circumstances.  And she needed to do something.
Katia is the Clinical Director of the NeuroBehavioral Institute and a Psychoeducational Liaison for Academic-Options.  She is a licensed psychologist in the State of Florida.  Dr Moritz is Board Certified in Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy.

    GLMX #160: The Golden Path

    in Christianity

Two weeks ago, we learned of the tragic story of a young man by the name of Moritz Erhardt. He was a 21-year-old German bank intern working in the London offices of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He was found dead in his home after working for 72 hours without sleep in the company's investment banking division.

In the wake of his death, Reuters published a very interesting article about the kind of culture that drives young interns to go to extremes in order to secure their future in the money-making centers of the world. Belinda Goldsmith, who wrote the article, says: "Attracted to the glass towers of finance in London, New York and Singapore by the prospect of securing a full-time job and hefty wage, future 'masters of the universe' often face 20-hour days in some of the most adrenaline-soaked offices on earth. Weekends at work and meals in the office are par for the course with anecdotal reports of the 'magic roundabout' where interns get a taxi home after dawn and leave it waiting while they have a quick shower and then return to work." One former intern who now has a job at a major U.S. bank said, "People push themselves because they want an offer with the bank and the chance of a great career and great money. This is a golden path."

This "golden path" -- this drive for money -- is dangerous physically, mentally, and spiritually. It is not only bank and investment interns who pursue money this madly. But, people from every career path knock themselves out to be financially and materially successful. Their heart is set on the next big sale, the next big paycheck, and the next big thing they can buy.
