Independent Everything: LIVE with 80's Female Funk Band ~ KLYMAXX

    in Music

The R&B all female funk band KLYMAXX is KLYMAXXTIC! Still going strong their music is a staple on the radio and in dance clubs around the world. Belting out hits like, “The Men All Pause” and “Meeting in the Ladies Room” the group’s name is synonymous with classic women’s anthems. Their beautiful ballad, “I Miss You”, was Billboard Magazine’s #3 song of 1986 and still to this day is played when love is in the air. Much of the group’s success can be credited to Cheryl Cooley, Cofounder and original member. She has personally nurtured the group’s unique sound by overseeing the infusion of 80’s funk with a modern swag. Her enthusiasm and vision have transformed KLYMAXX into a leaner meaner entity producing live music that delivers dynamic vocals and uncompromised grooves. These ladies are serious about entertaining their fans and continuing with the KLYMAXX legacy.

CM Radio - Apr 1, 2015 - Daniel Isaiah, DLV, The Control Room, Goodnight Sunrise

    in Music

Another big show this week, with back-to-back episodes featuring four interviewees.

Secret City Records' Daniel Isaiah discusses his latest work, Come Into Gone. Though Isaiah has spent considerable time in Europe and the U.S., and is known in some circles as much for his award-winning short films (under the name Daniel Schachter), CIG is a distinctly local work. The new album was written in his cozy Mile End flat, in a 10-foot by 10-foot room with a perfect view of Mont-Royal, and a little piano in it hauled over from Halifax, on which many of the songs were composed. Isaiah had never taken this approach before, but through it he found chords that he wouldn’t have on his usual guitar. And though writing the songs took considerable time, not much rehearsing or preparation went into recording them. The looseness of the recordings works so well precisely because the songs are so well crafted.

We also catch up with 3/4 of the bill for the April 2nd edition of Generation Next Live at The Phoenix in Toronto in electro-rock four-piece DLV, alt quartet The Control Room, and upbeat indie pop trio Goodnight, Sunrise. (Rebel Hero, the fourth band on the bill, was on last week's show.) If you're in the Toronto area, consider checking it out. www.generationnextlive.com.

"SOME GOOD CRAIC " - with Ice Wagon Flu

    in Music

On Wdenesday night 4/1/15 at 8 pm Some Good Craic is back LIVE with special guest Ice Wagon Flu - I've seen these guys play many times over the years and they know how to get a crowd going . Kev will be calling in to talk about the band and what they got going on . And i'll be playing some of their tunes . Jonny Ra will be on later in the show as well with the News From The Emerald Isle That'll Make You Smile !!!

Icewagon Flu, where did this name come from?

Back in the days when the icebox was the best form of refrigeration, icemen would deliver large blocks ice in horse-drawn wagons. Chunks of ice were placed in the icebox which became the predecessor to the modern day refrigerator. The good-neighbored iceman would supply his frozen goods with a grin on his face and an outstretched hand. Often the unassuming civil servant, would receive an extra “tip” from lonely housewives. And the telltale sign of their secret tryst was a nasty case of “icewagon flu.”"Icewagon Flu plays fast and loose with the traditional songs of our culture, with marvelous results. Nancy Whiskey goes under the sonic knife as a boozy bar maid and emerges as a Riot Grrrl, thanks to crunchy alt-rock guitars and slurred vocal. Fields of Athenrysounds like something REM might chance---should we re-christen it 'Fields of Athens, GA?' Waxie's Darglehas a funky jam-band beat interspersed with pipes and flutes! Imagine that! Off the Wagon takes these beloved tunes into a back alley, roughs them up, and makes them into modern rock gems.
