Weekend recap from the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, F1 in Hungary, and the Nationwide event on Saturday, plus other topics.
Matt Weaver of Open Wheel Now joins the show to talk about Jeff Gordon and his record 5th Brickyard win in the Sprint Cup Series, and the impact Ty Dillon's win has on the IMS race. Plus, we go indepth with Daniel Ricciardo's 2nd career win at the Hungaroring, beating the Mercedes AMG Petronas duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Today was Formula One Grand Prix qualifying in Budepest, Hungary. At the start of Q1, Mercedes AMG driver and 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton's car mysteriously caught fire. The disaster not only ended his day in Qualifying, but could have ended his life. As a result of the event, Hamilton will have to start from the pit lane. Formula One historians have said, "No driver has ever been able to start in the pit and win. Hamiltin may, move up 5 or 6 maybe even 10 spots, but, it will be difficult on that track."
Qualifying second was Red Bull driver and 4-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel. Third was the very dependable Williams-Martini driver, Valtteri Bottas. Rounding out the top five was, Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.

Fans appeared to have a great time in Hockenheim Sunday afternoon, when Formula One drivers, showed the motorsports world why they are the pinnacle of racing. In a 67-lap, party on the grid, it was non-stop action. There was a crash, contact, and over-taking of friends, and fellow teammates. But at the end of the day, there was the reward of a podium for three of the best drivers currently in Formula One. Mercedes AMG drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton lit the fuse of excitement in Australia, at the start of the season. And fans have lost sleep, waiting for the next race.
There cannot be enough said about Williams-Martini driver, Valtteri Bottas, coming in second and keeping Williams on the map.
In other track action: During the start of the race on turn one, Felipe Massa crashed after connecting with McLaren rookie, Magnussen. Sauber driver Adrian Sutil spun his car around and got stranded in the middle of the track. Fans and commentators were puzzled as to why the safety car was not deployed. The decision by track marshal’s to let it sit on the track for a lap, then send men out on foot to push it out of the way, was heavily criticized. Stranger than that, was the sudden burst of flames from the car of Daniil Kyvat.
Sahara Force India’s driver Nico Hulkenberg, had an impressive seventh place finish in front of his home crowd. While fellow German and 4-times world champion Sebastian Vettel, was one step away from a podium coming in fourth. Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished fifth.
Stay tuned to Xiro Xone News and F1 Sports. Next race, Hungary
It was a good day and, a bad day, for the Mercedes AMG team, in Hockenheim, Germany. Fans gasp with fear as Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton spun off the track and hit a wall at 250mph, taking the Brit out of qualifying. Hamilton was clearly shaken from the incident that was attributable to faulty brakes.
German teammate Nico Rosberg took pole position and is expected to win, but Lewis Hamilton is a master at conquering adversity. Rosberg is currently four championship points ahead of Hamilton, but stands to increase his lead to 29, after Sunday’s race. Sunday’s starting grid will be Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas with Williams-Martini racing, and his teammate, Felipe Massa.
Currently, there are four German drivers in Formula One, so the stands are expected to be full. Over the last four-years, the German superstar has been Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel. Now, Nico Rosberg, who was actually raised in Monaco, will have to battle fellow German and four times World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, for the hearts of the Germany fans.
