A weekly look at the 2014 Detroit Tigers, where they stand after each previous week in the regular season, and the predictions of each week ahead. You can call in during every episode at (646) 478-4837.
This week, I recap the series that the Tigers swept against the Oakland Athletics after that walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 9th by Rajai Davis in Monday's series-opening contest, as well as the series against the Tampa Bay Rays, who have been on a hot streak as of late in spite of their last-place record in the American League East Division. After Friday's poorly-performed loss due to another one of starting pitcher Drew Smyly's abominations, are the Tigers heading into another tail spin?
I will also talk about how poorly the Tigers' offense has hit the ball lately, and it's not just bad luck either. I'll explain it thoroughly as I speak in tongues. And I feel I'm the only person on earth that knows how to explain that thoroughly, too.
Also, I have an idea for a trade that could not only improve the bullpen but also improve the 5th starting pitcher's spot. And quit complaining about Doug Fister already. I'm talking about a trade that would technically move Smyly back to the bullpen.
I will sort this week's heroes and pyros and then look at the week ahead with the homestand finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the series in Kansas City Royals and the current standings.
A weekly look at the 2014 Detroit Tigers, where they stand after each previous week in the regular season, and the predictions of each week ahead.
First off on this week's installment, the Tigers wrap up their homestand with a 2-game series against the National League-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, and then they wrap up the first half of their 2014 campaign with a good 4-game series that obviously ended on a low note. They still have a bit of a wide lead in the American League Central Division Standings.
I'm still not giving up on Verlander, but I'm getting ticked off at him right now. His continuous rough innings are asinine to this franchise lately despite his great pitching. He's been choking in each and every 1st inning at home and in late innings on the road.
The Tigers take their All-Star break this week, but Miguel Cabrera, Max Scherzer, and Ian Kinsler will play in the MLB All-Star Game this Tuesday. Then they return home for more competitive action as the Cleveland Indians come to town for a 4-game set, which includes on doubleheader on Saturday
Other Detroit sports updates, including the Red Wings re-signing Dan Cleary to a 1-year deal, which was all they did.
On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show, host and senior staff writer Ricky Keeler recaps the Yankees' series against the Minnesota Twins and what the impact CC Sabathia's setback could have on the rotation going forward. Plus, Ricky will discuss which Yankees made the 2014 American League All-Star team.
Then, Kyle Downing, the editor of Wahoo's On First, will join the show to get you ready for the Yankees-Indians series that begins Monday at Progressive Field. Ricky and Kyle will breakdown the pitching matchups and give some players to watch. This is the first meeting between New York and Cleveland this year after Terry Francona took the Tribe to the playoffs a season ago.
Other topics of discussion will include the emergence of Michael Brantley, the struggles for Carlos Santana at 3B this year, Corey Kluber among the league leaders in strikeouts, and whether or not the team will be buyers or sellers at the deadline (future of Justin Masterson?)
