    A Day in the Life of Matthew Werling

    Join us as our host, Carol McDaniel, sits down with guest Matthew Werling, our new pharmacy director at All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine.


    As pharmacy director, Matthew oversees all inpatient pharmacy services at All Children’s. His areas of interest include medication safety, pharmacy administration, general pediatrics and quality improvement. He has been with the hospital since 2013.


    Before joining All Children’s, Matthew worked at Cleveland Clinic Children’s as the manager of pharmacy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University in 2006 and went on to earn his MBA from Case Western Reserve University.


    Originally from the Midwest, Matthew lives in St. Petersburg, FL with his partner and their newly adopted baby boy. His favorite thing about living in Florida is the sunshine.

    Join us as our host, Carol McDaniel, sits down with All Children's heart surgeon, Jeffrey P. Jacobs, M.D., FACS, FACC, FCCP. 


     


    Dr. Jacobs is director of the Andrews/Daicoff Cardiovascular Program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Heart Institute and professor of Cardiac Surgery in the Division of Cardiac Surgery of the Department of Surgery at Johns Hopkins University. He is also surgical director of the Heart Transplantation Program and director of the Extracorporeal Life Support Program at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Heart Institute. Dr. Jacobs has been a cardiothoracic surgeon at All Children’s Hospital since 1998.  


     


    Recently, Dr. Jacobs led a team of 60 physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals from All Children's Hospital and healthcare organizations throughout the United States and the world to deliver life-saving care in the Caribbean. Under Jacobs' leadership, the team has operated on more than 90 children since the first trip in 2006.

    Connie is the Director of Annual Giving and Volunteer Resources in the Foundation at All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine. She is responsible for annual giving programs and also oversees in-hospital and community volunteers. She has been with the hospital since July 2013. 


    Before joining All Children's, Connie worked at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. She continued her pediatric healthcare fundraising career by serving as Director of Children's Miracle Network/Annual Fund at Children's Hospital of Georgia and then as Major Gift Officer for Georgia Regents Medical Center and Children's Hospital. 


    Connie lives with her husband and two kids in St. Petersburg, FL and loves being just minutes from beautiful beaches.

    A Day in the Life of ACH president and vice dean Jonathan M. Ellen, M.D.

    Join us as our host, Carol McDaniel, sits down with guest Jonathan M. Ellen, M.D., president and vice dean of All Children's Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Ellen is leading the transformation of All Children's from a regional pediatric referral center to an academic children's hospital and national leader in research, teaching and patient care. 

    Under his visionary leadership, All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine launched an innovative new pediatric residency program and new fellowships, established the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Heart Institute and expanded programs dedicated to patient safety and quality. He forged collaborations among physicians at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, leading to new clinical and translational research spanning both campuses. 

    Dr. Ellen joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1999. He was named vice dean for All Children’s Hospital in 2011 and president of All Children’s Hospital in 2012. 

    Dr. Ellen lives in St. Petersburg, FL and enjoys all that the Sunshine State has to offer. He and his wife have a son and daughter.

    Before joining All Children’s, Karen worked as a child passenger safety technician and instructor. She currently teaches 10 car seat classes per month at All Children’s main campus and outpatient locations.  From drowning prevention and pedestrian safety to installing a car seat properly, find out firsthand what it’s like to work as an injury prevention coordinator at All Children’s Hospital.
