As the consistent half of the famous Midnight Express, first with Loverboy Dennis Condrey, then with Sweet Stan Lane, but always with Jim Cornette, The Midnight Express won numerous NWA World and United States tag team titles. The Express wrestled The Road Warriors in the classic "Night Of The Skywalkers" scaffold match in Chicago which saw Cornette break both arms.

We will not promise that there will be time for listener questions, however, we encourage your participation in our chat room. Should we offer a question period, you may call via Skype or at (347) 826-9418. All calls will be screened. Steve, Katie and Sean hope you will enjoy the show.

Traveling the Underground Railroad from Virginia to Ontario

    in Travel

We'll share stories about some of the Underground Railroad and a Destination Spotlight will shine on the Faukland Islands and Romania.

The City of Norfolk, Virginia is an important 400-year-old port city and home to the largest naval base in the world.  But, surprisingly as a southern mid-Atlantic city, Norfolk also played a crucial role in the Underground Railroad as one of the last port stops on the road to freedom north.  Much of this history is now being shared through Norfolk's self-guided Waterways to Freedom Tour that our guest, Dr. Cassandra Newby-Alexander from Norfolk State University helped to create.

Historian and author Debra Sandoe McCauslin has deep roots in Gettysburg and Adams County, Pennsylvania.  We learned about her family history and, in our car ride with her along the Underground Railroad, Debra brought to life the voices of some fugitive slaves and the Quakers who helped them.

Lewiston, New York was the final stop for runaway slaves from the South who sought to cross the border into Canada to freedom.  Once slaves reached Lewiston, locals helped them cross the Niagara River by boat or by foot when the river was frozen.

After the War of 1812, Canada's reputation as a safe haven for fugitive slaves grew because of the development of settlements like the Southern Ontario farming community of Buxton, formerly the Elgin Settlement.  Buxton was one of four planned settlements for former and runaway slaves and its founder, Reverend William King, a white man, fought other white settlers to establish the area.

Gravity, Human Movement and Parkinson's Disease

    in Health

Innate human coordination requires being in sync with the STRAIGHT-down influence of gravity. This enables us to tap the substantial energy generated by the downward movement of our body mass. In infancy, we all learn this highly evolved skill as we teach ourselves to sit, stand and walk with grace and power. Early in childhood, however, through deep cultural conditioning, we forget. From the day we are born, we see everyone around us sitting back in chairs, sofas, car seats, etc. At around 3 or 4, we get sucked into this utterly normal, but mal-adaptive behavior. We begin sitting-back with staggering repetition. In so doing, we interfere with gravity's influence by sending our body mass down on a BACKWARDS trajectory. Our brains automatically react -- with muscular strain and skeletal distortion -- to keep our head/neck functionally vertical. We don't notice these reactions nor feel anything unusual. It all happens subconsciously. This kinesthetic disconnect spills over into how we stand and walk. The consequences are all around us: society-wide epidemics of bad posture, lower back and neck pain, knee and hip replacements. For people with Parkinsons, the consequences are even more severe, restricting free movement considerably. This can be changed -- through re-developing sensitivity to our downward-moving body mass and how it is affecting us moment-by-moment. If you are planning to listen, it will be worth your while to check-out in advance an illustrated essay on this topic at www.uprighting.com/Parkinsons.pdf.
