Gaius Publius Interviews Alan Grayson: How To Be Effective In a Republican Congress
Alan Grayson is a three-term Democratic congressman from Florida, having just been re-elected in 2012. Grayson is easily the most effective Democrat in Congress, progressive or otherwise, having passed 33 pieces of legislation in the previous House session alone.
In this pre-recorded conversation with Gaius Publius, he reveals how he "cracked the nut" that allows him to get progressive legislation passed. Part of his secret — his goal is to be a person who "gets things done for the progressive movement," not a person who introduces bills and "then does nothing" with them. In the last two weeks of the last Congress alone, for example, he passed 15 progressive amendments.
Grayson discusses what he learned in his one term away from Congress (he lost re-election in 2010); how he deals with Democratic leaders when those leaders want the wrong thing; what he thinks of the current global climate situation; and touches on issues like TPP and prosecution of elected and appointed officials for torture.

So far, only Pam Keith and U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy of Palm Beach County has announced candidacy, and the Florida Democratic establishment is quickly supporting Murphy. The problem: Murphy was a registered Republican until running for Congress in 2012 and remains Florida's single most moderate Democrat in the House, often siding with Republicans. He won't even deny having voted for George W. Bush for president.
Florida Democrats continue to lose by running former Republicans.
For today's show, Making sense has a special guest, Congressman Alan Grayson. Congressman Grayson joins us to talk about what the US should do (if anything) with regard to Syria.
I'll also discuss various other news of the week and also will have my trademark hall of fame and shame for those politicians and prominent individuals that made great sense, or shameful nonsense respectively.

"Tipping Point with Boone Cutler" was born and became the weekly stage for Boone’s raw Paratrooper, no-holds-barred style, becoming a hit over the air waves and online with ‘Soccer Moms’ and his fellow Warfighters that are still deployed in combat zones worldwide. Boone’s message is simple, “America has lost faith in what they used to believe were the heroes of Hollywood, America has become disgusted with the political climate of today so the only place to turn to and trust for leadership is the Warfighter”.
