Question: How do you take a Navy from a force structure of just a handful of wooden cruisers to the most powerful fleet in history in just two generations? Because this is exactly what happened within the United States Navy (USN) in the late 1800s in the first half of the 20th century. Along with obvious answers like having the necessary resources and industrial infrastructure, there is the question of the people who manned it. One of the keys in the development of the USN's training, tactics, and fleet doctrine were 21 "Fleet Problens," run between 1923 and 1940. Fleet Problems were a series of full-scale fleet exercises, designed to explore and experiment new ideas for the US fleet, while providing officers and crews with a chance to operate under simulated battle conditions for extended periods of time. Most of the future World War II and early Cold War USN leaders participated in the Fleet Problems, learning many of the lessons that would allow them to achieve victory in the coming "Two Ocean War" that was coming.
To learn more about the USN's Fleet Problems prior to World War II, tune into this week's edition of Military Monday (#MilitaryMonday on the Writestream Radio Network (@Writestream)). Author, historian, journalist, documentary filmmaker, and host John D. Gresham (@greshamj01) has invited Government Printing Office author Al Nofi to discuss his book, TO THE FLEET FOR WAR. Considered an "instant classic" within the Naval history genre, Nofi's book describes in intimate detail, the various Fleet Problems, how they were run and adjudicated, and lessons learned derived from the exercises that became the basis for the USN's World War II doctrine.

Ancient Africans in America
Before Columbus left for the New World, Melanated brothers and sisters were already living in what we call the Americas. Obviously we know, as does anyone with a brain, that it's impossible to discover a land populated by other people. The land may be knew to you, but that does not mean that it is a new land. That's like a bunch of strangers knocking on your door telling you that they just discovered your house. Well, weren't you living there before they "discovered" it? So would that not mean that you found it before they did?
Join Alex Primo, Asha Zuri, and Zhe Levels Scott Thursday September 24 at 9 PM EST as we explore and discuss the untold, or rather untaught, history of Melanated(Black) People who walked the shores of the Americas long before those who claimed to have "found" it.
Proof of the Melanated presence in America before Columbus comes from Columbus himself. In 1920, historian Leo Weiner of Harvard University, in his book, "Africa and the discovery of America", explained how Columbus noted in his journal that Indigenous Americans had confirmed that “black skinned people had come from the south-east in boats, trading in gold-tipped spears.”
Also the brother Dennis Jefferson will be stopping by for another informative and much needed episode of Healthy Matters.
You can call-in to speak with your Hosts at (917)889-2830
You can tune in and listen LIVE here.
And as always remember to Keep It Real and Keep It On Point. #One
In this episode of "Bringing Voices To Power" I discuss the "queen mentality vs. the "hood-rat" mentality with April Gail Lee. April holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) and a Masters of Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. April is a strong Black Queen who has strong views about the relationship between the black man and the black woman. She also has a powerful personal story about her expierences when blacks encounter government ran "child services" and the effects on black lives. She lends an important voice to the Facebook page "Afrocentric Psychology" and the black community that provokes great disscussion and debate. We will discuss what makes a black queen and what constitutes a black hood-rat and how we can reunite the black man and woman for the betterment of the black community.
