"My Music " DrCal will share his music with his fans

    in Music

My Music is a new segment on the show to share DrCal original music and songs. Most people know me for my Jazz guitar work and R&B styles. But with this show I want to play some of the compositions I treasure. This show is exclusively for DrCal fans.

Long before I did this show I played the B3 organ and Bass Guitar for the Church. After hosting the “DrCal hour of Insight” for over four years, all I have been doing is promoting and helping other artist get heard. “My Music” will not cover the many works I have but it will show another side of what I love to do. Tune in at 6PM EST and say hello if you want at 1-760-542-3931.

CoffeeTalk JAZZ Radio Chats with Saxophonist and Flutist Nelson Rangell 5.5.2015

    in Music

    HAVE YOU HEARD?

We have an ear for music and we are touching the WORLD through jazz. CoffeeTalk Jazz Radio shares its concern regarding the lack of interest in preserving radio. Our focus has been to bring radio back through our online digital platform. We’ve succeeded in a BIG way with our award-winning LIVE RADIO BROADCAST. We bring music storytellers from every corner of the globe to one common platform.

Nelson Rangell is the fourth child in a musical family. His brother, Andrew, is a well known concert pianist living in Boston; his brother, Bobby, lives in Paris and is a leading woodwind player in European jazz and studio scenes. His sister, Paula, is a professional singer living in New Orleans. Join the JAZZ conversation.

Rangell first played flute at the age of 15. Within months he was studying both classical and jazz music at The Interlochen Arts Academy, a national camp for gifted music students. He went on to attend The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. As a student he twice won Down Beat Magazine’s prestigious National Student Recording Awards competition both as best jazz and best pop/rock instrumental soloist. After college he headed to New York in 1984 to pursue his career.

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Joanna Pascale!

    in Music

When you see Joanna Pascale's website, you'll see the quote from her regarding her new project.  She says, "Wildflowers grow unter the most unlikely circumstances.  You'll find them in the most unlikely places.  From the beginning, that's how my journey has been."

Joanna Pascale IS a "Wildflower."  Strong and resilient, unexpectedly beautiful and unique.  Her presence in the world of Jazz is appreciated - this writer speaks for many.  She LOVES the music, is grateful for the Masters and Mistresses that came before her, and dearly craves to bring those voices from the past to YOU - in her OWN voice :)  And what a gift that is!

When Joanna was attending Philadelphia's High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, a fellow student and friend was Bilal.  He joins her on "Wildflower", as does someone who has known her for equally as long.  That's the well-respected pianist - and producer for this album - Orrin Evans.  Who else is on this spectacular effort is enough to make your ears burn until the end of 2015!  Let's just say The BEST of the Best.

The new work from Joanna comes at a time when a successful ten-year run at Philly's Loew's Hotel was coming to an end. Sad as it was for all concerned, it gave our guest wings.  She was ready to get involved in HER music, having blessed other artists with her vocals on THEIRS.  She still has her day job at her alma mater, Temple University, and she reaches hundreds of students each year with her teaching abilities.  But this is where Joanna shines in a particular way.  She won't touch a song unless she feels it.  When she soaks her soul into the meaning of a classic, it's like you never heard the song before NOW.  This Lady Was Born To Sing.

Join Joanna and me on 5/5 - your ears will thank you!

Vocalist, Nina Causey & B.O.B.S.A.'s Sam Ennon

    in Culture

We have a Bay Area treat for you in Nina Causey, vocalist. Opening for such acts as The Drifters and Temptations to name a few, Nina has been a performer for what seems like all her life. Taking her craft seriously, she earned a Bachelor’s from Roosevelt University in Chicago and her Master’s from The University of Illinois at Urbana, IL. Of course, both degrees were in her chosen field and profession, music. Twelve years of studying classical piano at Chicago’s American Conservatory of Music rounded out her musical studies. While listening to her sounds of contemporary jazz, blues to neo-soul she provides a well-rounded sound for your enjoyment. We are going to listen to a couple of her favorites and tell you how she does it.

My friend, Sam Ennon of B.O.B.S.A (Black Owned Beauty Supply Association) is going to stop by and tell us about the latest developments from his recent trip to Detroit. He will also give us an update on The Black Box Caddy trio of Hair Care Product vending machines. Remember these machines are open for Entrepreneurs investment. They are also available for placement in your Beauty, Barber or any associated type facility.

All this and playing a few of our favorite musical cuts too. As always, join us for a great time out.
