    He Said, on Next Steps Radio

    in Books

    February and April are He Said/She Said months on Next Steps Radio!

    Does gender count when it comes to writing thrillers? Are there differences between the two sets of authors and the books they write? And the biggie: is one gender more likely to be successful than the other?

    First up, the men. Please join host and award-winning suspense novelist Jenny Milchman as she talks to three male authors about whether sex matters.

    Matthew FitzSimmons was born in Illinois and grew up in London, England. He now lives in Washington, DC, where he taught English literature and theater at a private high school for over a decade. THE SHORT DROP, a political kidnapping conspiracy thriller, is his first novel.

    Barry Lancet’s third book in his award-winning international thriller series featuring Jim Brodie is PACIFIC BURN. Previous books are JAPANTOWN (Barry Award Winner) and TOKYO KILL (Shamus Award Finalist). Lancet divides his time between Japan and California.

    After graduating with a Journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma, Tim Washburn spent several years working in the television business both in Oklahoma City and Little Rock, Arkansas. His first book, POWERLESS, deals with a geomagnetic solar storm that destroys every power grid in the northern hemisphere, flinging the human race back to the Dark Ages.

    HumorOutcasts Radio - author Tim Jones

    in Comedy

    Tonight we have  humorist Tim Jones author of  YOU'RE GROUNDED FOR LIFE: Misguided Parenting Strategies That Sounded Good At The Time:

    This humor book is a collection of hilarious essays on parenting in the era of Facebook and texting. If you’re a parent – or just thinking about making arguably the biggest mistake of your life by starting a family – then YOU’RE GROUNDED FOR LIFE may make you a better parent. Probably not. In fact, I’m laying 10-to-1 odds it won’t. But you never know. Whether you’re the parent of a toddler, a middle schooler or a college sophomore, you’ll find innovative parenting strategies the author has tried – all with hilariously disastrous results. If you’re looking for a humor book that looks at the funny side of trying to parent children intent on driving you insane, you’ve found it. As the father of high-spirited, rambunctious daughters, Tim Jones, author of the popular humor blog View From The Bleachers, playfully shares pearls of parenting wisdom honed from futilely trying to understand the mysterious minds of kids. If you happen to have figured it out, could you give him a call? He’d really appreciate it.

    Prophetic Conversations with You: Gifts given to us!

    in Youth

    Gifts given to us!

    Ephesians 4:1-32 (KJV)
    1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
    2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
    3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
    4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
    5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
    6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
    7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
    8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
    9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
    10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
    11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
    12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

    That's Novel Interviews Authors Angel Payne and Rachael Duncan

    in Books

    Angel Payne: Bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on "swap stories" they'd trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and French kissing.Angel still lives in Southern California, where she is married to her soul mate and lives on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with their awesome daughter and Lady Claire, the dog with impeccable manners. When not writing, she enjoys reading, pop culture, alt rock, cute shoes, and hanging at the beach with family and friends. Find her on Amazon at: http://amzn.to/1oiAC9b

    Rachael Duncan: Rachael Duncan is an Army wife to her amazing husband, Steven, and mother to their beautiful daughters, Natalie and Zoe. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went off to graduate from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in political science. With initial plans to work in politics, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked on Capitol Hill for a House Representative. After a short time, she realized it wasn't for her and began pursuing other careers until she started writing. She's the author of Tackled by Love and The Lies and Truth Duet.
