Informative, real and frank discussions about topics that affect the Alcoholic. We do not speak for AA as a whole but with a members eye view. Some of our topics will include:: The History of AA, the 12 Steps, The Traditions, The Promises, The Big Book, the Washingtonian Society, The Oxford Group, What is a Sponsor, How do you know if you are an Alcoholic, anonymity and a Big Book Study Guide. Join us as we grow in our fellowship One Day at a Time.
My name is Dr. Ramona Brockett, the research that I will discuss on this episode of The LanceScurv Show comes from my dissertation where I used secondary data from the NCCD archives of the University of Michigan and ran a logistic regression to determine African American (AA) and European American (EA) perceptions of police aggression.
I looked at justified police aggression and unjustified police aggression. When I say, "aggression," I mean police action. The areas of perception included everything from arrests to helping old ladies across the street.
The most important findings were these:
(1) AA's in the upper glass approved of police aggression at a lower rate than lower class EA's;
(2) Working class AA's and Working class EA's approved similarly police to both justified and unjustified police aggression; and,
(3) working class AA's approve of both justified and unjustified police aggression at a higher rate than the upper class AA's, middle class AA's and lower class AA's. Dissimilarly, EA's approval is proportionate with class. So, upper class A's approve at the highest rates and approval decreases with class.
A second topic we need to explore is my Conceptual Incarceration Theory. This theory looks at the 13th Amendment and I contend that inherent within the wording of the 13Th Amendment, the AA is reinslaved upon incarceration. Thus, the reason why black life is devalued--we are not considered human. Thus, Garner etc., could easily be killed.
Lance and I look forward to your presence and participation in the sharing of my findings.
See you there!

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "Child Abuse, Trauma and 12-Step Recovery" - STEP 2 - SCAN host Bill Murray will be joined by special guest co-host Rivka Edery, MSW, LCSW, from NYC, author of the book “Trauma and Transformation: A 12-Step Guide." Together they will lead tonight's discussion on STEP 2: "Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." Step Two is about asking for help, and being receptive to receiving this help. Survivors, especially, often hide their fundamental lack of trust. Operating in a superficial world, fighting for respect, and lacking in support to pursue a spiritual life, survivors press ahead in spite of their collection of battle scars. Such people find themselves greatly challenged to maintain an appearance of having it all together, and are longing to trust and to be fully expressed. Survivors are struggling with courage and determination to make their lives work, in spite of this great, gaping wound. ~~ A child abuse survivor herself, Rivka Edery is grateful for the spiritual recovery she found in the 12 Steps of AA. She's been active in the 12 Step community for over 17 years. Bill Murray credits his 30 plus years of recovery to the spiritual power of the 12 Step program, too. He founded the recently launched Adult Survivors of Child Abuse Anonymous (ASCAA). ~~ Join us every two weeks to further examine a 12 Step approach to recovery from abuse. Next show we'll address STEP 3. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/Trauma-12Step or write to Rivka at: email@example.com
Patterned after the typical format of an open meeting in a 12-step group, the show will be a speaker meeting. Guests will be from AA, NA or AlAnon and will share their perspective on what they were like, what happened and what they are like now.

As one who always loved to immerse his face in the stream of life, let's talk about people who want to run away from it. Memoirs is about those who do in fact flee the challenge of life and seek refuge, in their case not in a bottle but rather in the nuthouse. Of course, enough bottle and the nuthouse (or prison or death) is just one more slip away. As a shrink I knew and worked with many people who were addicted, especially to booze. In fact, I often took them to their first AA meeting, something few shrinks do. No, I wasn't a member, but there are open meetings. I would try to arrange for one of my other clients who was living sober to be there for that same meeting. Funny coincidence...NOT! I would just say, "Hey Matt, this is Cathy. She can help you understand what's happening maybe go with you to a regular meeting." That helped a lot of people get their start in recovery.
So what does that have to do with my writing? Well, drunks tell great stories. I have another book, "Tales From the Dew Drop Inne", that tells the story of the gang who hang at that bar, which I set in Albuquerque. Not too surprisingly, the gang goes to find one of their number at a meeting to get him to be part of their bar softball team. Well, you can imagine what happens, but we can talk it.

Many bloggers are talking about this. FInd us on www.leavingaa.com . Deprogramming before one embibes again. Some prefer never to drink again attitude. Many do drink normally again after many years of abstinance. Many AA circuit speakers have left and are finding they can drink easily with no probelm. Which one are you? We are going to do a live chat so you can talk about it in the chat room. I will take calls and questions and comments. Why do so many leave AA after decades and feel they were in a cult. Monica Richardson hosts this 1 hour live show to talk about the Holidays, Leaving AA, moderation, and learning new healthy habits.
We will talk about the best deprogramming books we have read and the best moderation books out there. Drink Link Moderation by Donna Cornett, Take Control Now by Dr Marc Kern, Ken Anderson's Hams Harm Reduction. Lance Dodes books, The Sober Truth. Stanton Peele and Ilse Thompson's book Recover! If you like the show Safe Recovery, please go to itunes and review my show. Thank you all and Happy Holidays!
Bob Burg, best-known as coauthor of the international bestseller, The Go-Giver, talks with Jack about his latest book Adversaries into Allies: Win People Over Without Manipulation or Coercion.
Great influencers — whether CEOs, entrepreneurs, sales professionals, clergy, parents, teachers, etc. — seem to have a knack for getting the results they want from people, but in a way that everyone is happy. And, these leaders are persuasive in the most positive and benevolent sense of the word.
And, while, for some it might be natural, for most of us it’s a set of learned skills. Fortunately, they are both simple to learn and easy to apply.
In this chat, Bob shows us how to take our influence to an entirely new level utilizing his:
Five Principles of Ultimate Influence
Control your own emotions
Understand the clash of belief systems
Acknowledge their ego
Set the proper frame
Communicate with tact and empathy
The technical skills of any profession are vitally important.
Without them, you’re not even in the game. However, even with them, you’re only in the game. Those who have mastered the people skills obtained through the Five Principles of
Ultimate Influence are nine steps ahead in the game…in a ten-step game.
And their lives, and their business, are a lot more fun, a lot less stressful, and a lot more profitable. And, that can be you!
