Author and Adventurer Kurt Koontz about his book A Million Steps

    in Self Help

VividLife Radio's Kristen White speaks with author and adventurer Kurt Koontz about his recent book, A Million Steps. In A Million Steps, Kurt shares his month-long adventure walking from village to village in Spain along a route that pilgrims have followed since medieval times. Kurt also navigates through his personal history of addiction, recovery, and love. Kurt Koontz grew up with a lot of the outdoors in Boise, Idaho. He studied business at the University of Puget Sound, then returned to his hometown to rise through the ranks as a sales executive for Micron Technology. While working, he traveled on business across the U.S. and the world. When he retired at age 36, he took to adventure travel—mostly by bicycle across Europe and in the Western U.S. and Canada. It wasn't until 2012 that he began writing about his adventures. That year, he walked the 500-mile El Camino de Santiago, the Spanish pilgrimage route dating from medieval times. This journey, he says, was a very different kind of travel. On the Camino, he lived moment to moment, not knowing where he would find the next meal or sleep the next night. As he walked the 1,300-year-old route, he heard unforgettable stories from other pilgrims and took a deeper look at his own life stories. Recorded in his journal and e-mails home, they became the foundation for his first book, A Million Steps, due out late this year. He now lives and writes near family and friends, on a tree-lined creek in Boise. http://kurtkoontz.com/about-kurt/

A Million Steps with Guest Kurt Koontz:The Jenn Royster Show

    in Travel

Dr. Jenn welcomes guest Kurt Koontz, author of the book, A Million Steps. The title for this book is a rough estimate of the number of steps he took while walking the Camino de Santiago. Over the course of a kilometer, he counted 1,153 steps. Kurt did the math and discovered that he would take a total of 909,717 steps on the trail between St. Jean Pied-de-Port, where it began, and Santiago de Compostela, where it ended. Kurt added in another 3,000 or so steps per day to cover the walks to dinner and short hikes for sightseeing. Kurt will be sharing his insights on self discovery, lessons learned and the inspirations gained on a solo pilgrimage journey.

About Kurt Koontz: After retiring early from his job as a successful sales executive for a Fortune 500 technology company, Kurt Koontz volunteered in his community and traveled across Europe and North America. He never considered writing a book until he walked nearly 500 miles across Spain in 2012. Those million steps were so compelling that he returned home and began writing and speaking about his life-changing adventures. He lives and writes on a tree-lined creek in Boise, Idaho. South African Series Presents - Million Votes For Steve

    in Culture

On Saturday 23rd May at 2 pm CT (9 pm SA time) we will be talking to the founder of MillionVotes for Steve, Jaco Zaayman, Pieter Gericke and Amor van Heerden.

Million Votes for Steve was started 7 weeks ago as a Facebook group supporting the quest of local celebrity Steve Hofmeyr for a better South Africa for its white minority, and all other minorities.  During the past 21 years minorities in South Africa have been marginalised, and the role of the white South African in the development of this country has been maligned. Our history, language, career prospects, schools and culture have been under constant attack, and a hatred towards us has been created by the ANC, by adjusting historical facts.  Our action was started to give our people back the voice they have lost, and to let the world know we are dying

Deepertruth: The Virgin Mary and The Philippines Part II

    in Religion

Last week John Carpenter looks at the posibility of Mother Mary appearing in the Philippines between 1988-1993.  It is still under investigation, so we can't say this is total fact, but we are looking at the information that is being studied.  Many signs reported match many other authorized Marian apparitions.  An estimated one million people gathered in a small Philippine town north of Manila on 6 March to witness a visitation of the Virgin Mary. Many people in the crowd, including top Philippine government officials, journalists, and the local Catholic bishop - acting as a representative of the Pope - attested to seeing a silhouette resembling the Virgin Mary appear above a guava tree for approximately five seconds. This was followed several minutes later by flashes of red, yellow and blue lights moving towards a "dancing sun".

The events took place at Apparition Hill in the small town of Agoo, in La Union province. A visionary boy, 16-year-old Judiel Nieva, says that the Virgin Mary has been appearing to him, and giving him messages, on the first Saturday of every month and on special religious feasts since 1989. The pilgrims gathered in Agoo on 6 March because the boy said the Virgin would appear at that particular place and time.

About a month earlier, a statue of the Virgin Mary owned by Judial Nieva's family began regularly weeping tears of blood. The phenomenon was witnessed by thousands during a noontime mass in February. An assistant to the nationâs President said that the statue was brought before his critically ill wife on two occasions, and both times she unexpectedly recovered. There are also reports that Communion wafers turn to flesh and blood in Nievaâs mouth. Another resident of the area said that his statue of the Virgin was also "shedding tears, which later turn blood red."
