Shriekfest Radio! Denise Gossett interviews filmmaker Brian Belefant!

    in Paranormal

A long time ago, I was a copywriter.  I was at Scali McCabe Sloves, Chiat/Day, Stein Robaire Helm, Borders Perrin & Norrander, and BBDO, along with a couple of other companies that I thought were ad agencies because of the creative way they were named after people, but that turned out to be accounting firms or something. Somebody told me that you couldn't be a director unless you went to school for it, so I took a bunch of film classes at UCLA, NYU, and SVA, and even though some people might tell you otherwise, I managed to learn stuff. Then I started asking people to hire me to direct their commercials and some of them did. It's been about twenty years now, of me wearing a hat, wandering around on the set, and saying "cut" without getting into any trouble. I must be really good at it, too, because sometimes people ask me to do it over and over and not because I got it wrong and they want me to try again until I get it right. I even got a bunch of certificates and trophies and stuff -- including a really ugly hood ornament from the London International Advertising Awards.  And not just for commercials. I sometimes get to direct films -- which are just like commercials only they're longer and there's more talking and sometimes naked people in them -- and documentaries, which are just like commercials only the people you point the camera at usually know even less about how to make the film go than I do.

Brian won Best Horror Comedy short film in Shriekfest 2002 and had a screenplay finalist in 2002 as well with his script "The Lakeside Slasher".

The first verse in the third chapter of the old Testament book of Ecclesiastes states "To everything there is a there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven." Among the 27 purposes listed is a "...time to laugh."  And so it is for audiences exposed to the comedy  styling of the fabulous MizT.  From her trademark opening dance routine (the girl can 'jam'), to her infectious laugh, MizT knows how to bring "the funny" with purpose, ferocity and freshness. MizT is an experienced comedienne now getting more national notice with her debut comedy album, "Back at 'Ya Lord!"   Coming soon will be a DVD version of that hilarious CD.

She has also won critical acclaim, being chosen runner-up as the "Comedian of The Year" during the 2010 Texas Gospel Music Excellence awards.  And she has been notified that she's a nominee in the 2013 "Comedian of The Year" category by the Gospel Sounds Radio Network. Until fairly recently, MizT's "side-splitting" comedy routines was shared primarily with folks in Texas...from Dallas to Houston to the capital city of Austin.  But she is a regional star no more...becoming a comic force across the U-S with the release of "Back at 'Ya Lord."  Clips from MizT's comedy album are now airing on Internet radio stations across America and overseas in London. Prepare to be blessed as we discuss her book and comedy. Laughter is good for the soul. Remember God loves you.

Will Task Force Protect Pollinators Or Chemical Industry?

    in Environment

A Presidential Memorandum was issued requesting that all federal agencies work together to develop a cohesive plan for pollinator protection. It was stated, “The problem is serious and requires immediate attention to ensure the sustainability of our food production systems, avoid additional economic impact on the agricultural sector, and protect the health of the environment.” This was the memorandum issued last June. Bee populations continued declining as well as other pollinators such as the Monarch butterfly. On May 19th, it was announced that under the leadership of the U.S. EPA and USDA, the Task Force was releasing its Strategy, with 3 overarching goals: Reduce honey bee colony losses to economically sustainable levels; Increase monarch butterfly numbers to protect the annual migration; and Restore or enhance millions of acres of land for pollinators through combined public and private action.

As we continue our special series called “The Neonicotinoid View”, host June Stoyer and special guest co-host, Colorado beekeeper, Tom Theobald talk to Larissa Walker, the Pollinator Campaign Director and a policy analyst at the Center for Food Safety about this new strategy. Stay tuned!
