Pat Williams is a basketball Hall-of-Famer, currently serving as co-founder and senior vice president of the NBA’s Orlando Magic. As one of America’s top motivational speakers, he has addressed thousands of executives in organizations ranging from Fortune 500 companies and national associations to universities and nonprofits. Pat is also the author of over 85 books, his most recent title chronicling his successful battle with cancer, The Mission Is Remission.
Since 1968, Pat has been in the NBA as general manager for teams in Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia—including the 1983 World Champion 76ers—and now the Orlando Magic, which he co-founded in 1987 and helped lead to the NBA finals in 1995 and 2009.
Pat and his wife, Ruth, are the parents of 19 children, including 14 adopted from four nations, ranging in age from 26 to 40. For one year, 16 of his children were all teenagers at the same time. Currently, Pat has 12 grandchildren and counting…with twins due in July.
Pat was diagnosed in February of 2011 with Multiple Myeloma. After several rounds of chemo treatments, Pat received a bone marrow transplant where the doctors injected him with almost 5 million of his own stem cells. Pat’s recovery from the stem cell transplant has been remarkable and the doctors are extremely pleased. While Multiple Myeloma is incurable the goal is to get the cancer into remission (Pat’s personal slogan has been “The Mission is Remission”);
Pat teaches an adult Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of Orlando and hosts three weekly radio shows. In the last 15 years, he has completed 58 marathons—most recently, the 2011 Walt Disney World Marathon—and also climbed Mt. Rainier.
A police officer and listener wrote us about his terrifying encounter - "Whatever it was then started circling our camp. It would hoaf at us every now and then and step on dead branches making the snapping sound. I say branches because it did not sound like a twig, more like large sticks and they did not sound like they were being pulled off a tree but being stepped on. It would also make these thuds. The kind of thing you feel more then you hear. For some reason we all started calling it a her I guess because it sounds crazy but the thing sounded like a female to us when it had screamed. It kept this up for the next three hours just circling our camp making noises that we could track it as it moved around us. After the scream from behind us I had made the fire real big and after about an hour of it circling us we started running out of the two day supply of wood we had collected so I had to get more. My oldest when telling the story of him holding the flash light for me thinks its very funny to tell how scared I was that I brought back a whole dead tree to burn in the fire. I did too, I had kept the fire raging about five feet in the air the whole time and a shotgun in my lap. By about three hours I had made a couple of runs around us and pulled back large dead trees to burn and I am not going to lie I was scared as hell with this thing circling us like it was...." The account goes on to describe "Jibber/Chatter" and the creature returning with several other creatures....the night isnt over yet, it hasnt even begun yet
Glendale, MD -- The coach’s journey is rarely direct. Many would-be coaches have had to overcome great hardships to transform their lives. But those experiences often inspire in people an overwhelming desire to help others create and follow the path toward a more rewarding life.
Growing up in her native Washington D.C. Tina Frizzell-Jenkins struggled all through school; she had to study five times harder than everyone else just to get B’s and C’s. It wasn’t until her own children were diagnosed with dyslexia that she discovered she too suffered from a learning disability. Today, Tina is a certified leadership and empowerment coach and the founder of JTI Coaching & Seminars, a division of Just Traders International, LLC.
“40 years ago they didn’t talk about learning disabilities,” says Tina. “It was a struggle but I’m very thankful for that struggle because it allowed me to develop a strong work-ethic for problem solving.”
That work-ethic served her well. Five years after graduating from Northeastern University, Tina went on to NASA where she’s worked as an engineer for the past 26 years. In addition to JTI Coaching & Seminars, Tina is NASA’s Coaching Program Manager.
Tina says many of her clients are people starting their own business. She helps these clients create a foundation for their business to provide a structure that can help them moving forward.
“If you’re dedicated and you want to move forward, I’m the coach for you,” says Tina. “Coaching helps people make their own way and I can show you how to get exactly where you want to go one step at a time.”
