Grammy Award Winner, Howard Hewett has been one of the most influential and consistent voices of the past three decades. Whether in a group setting, a guest vocalist or as a solo artist, Hewett's recognizable and virtually irresistible voice has wrapped itself around an array of musical moments; turning good songs into great records and great records into lifetime standards. Howard began his musical roots in Akron, Ohio at the age of 10. In 1976, he relocated to Los Angeles.
Howard later became the lead singer and third member of Shalamar with Jeffrey Daniels and Jody Watley. Shalamar graced the charts with hit after hit; such as, “A Night to Remember,” “For the Lover in You,” “Make that Move” and "Second Time Around."
Hewett departed for a solo career in 1985. He signed with Elektra, debuting his first single "I'm for Real." Hewett also co- wrote and produced his inspirational composition "Say Amen,” which remains one of his signature songs.
Howard also participated in major motion picture soundtracks; such as Foot Loose, The Five Heartbeats and Beverly Hills Cop; which he received a Grammy for “Don’t Get Stopped in Beverly Hills.”
He also cut duets with many legendary female recording artists who are no strangers to topping the charts; Dionne Warwick, Anita Baker, Stacy Latisaw, Roberta Flack, and Tina Marie.
He continues to hone his craft, as he is consistently writing, producing and performing; appearing on projects with the late George Duke, as well as Stanley Clarke, Brian Culbertson, Joe Sample, Gerald Albright, Kirk Whalum and many others.
Join me your host Issachar Bey with my special guest Astrologer David Perkins
David Bryant Perkins arrived on December 17, 1953 at 90º 20’ West Longitude, 32º 45’ North Latitude around the time when most local banks and government offices were about to close. Interest in astrology began in 1975 while working on a behavioral lab project in university - the results of which showed this ancient art of describing and predicting behavior outperforming the standard methods of psychology. David has since been on four different continents studying astrology’s history, philosophy, methods, and uses within many cultures. In 1985, he completed the first ever instructional and certification course ever given for (map on right) Astro*Carto*Graphy in San Francisco by it’s developer, the late Jim Lewis.
It was in Las Vegas many of the missing pieces and facts where uncovered to complete the story for HITLER'S ASTROLOGER, thanks to the Library of Congress, and a list of many others.
Although written in the form as a historical drama to facilitate an easy transition into becoming a full length motion picture, nearly every detail in HITLER'S ASTROLOGER is based on actual events.
Today we will have a lively conversaton with artist Carol DuChamp about the Art of Life and the Art of Trekking. She is fellow Arts and Healing artist and currently she is in our Art 4 All People exhibiton, MUSE: The Art of Transformation and Healing at the Institute for Art and Healing at Commonweal in Bolinas. Listen in for the transformation.
A local Bolinas resident, Carol Duchamp began her practice as a painter in 1985 under the watercolor mentorship of artist Jackie Kirk, and began exhibiting her paintings in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1993.
Indeterminacy and chance play a role, as does the element of water. Carol paints on pre-soaked 300-lb Arches watercolor paper. Her process takes place in the unplanned moment. This is both the beauty and the challenge. If the spirit is clear at the time of painting, access to intuitive resources becomes easier. If the mind is cluttered, the level of concentration is diminished and the result put at risk.
Carol is passionate about the healing powers of creativity, and imagination as essential creative principle. She taught Healing Art Transition courses at UC Santa Cruz Extension and enjoys helping others nurture their inner artist. She studied Transformative Arts at JFKU in Berkeley. She is founder and director of Art Trek, a small company that orchestrates travel study art classes to exotic such as France, French Polynesia, Italy, the American Southwest and Bali & Java, Indonesia. Carol is also a writer whose novella Garlic and Roses is nearing completion.
