Remembering WWI One Hundred Years Later; The Cambridge Career | RoyaltyNow!

    in News

Today's show: The WWI Centenary and Prince William's Job.

We recently commemorated the start of the Great War on August 4th of this year. One hundred years ago on that date, British Prime Minister Herbert Asquith announced at 11pm that Britain was to enter the war after Germany had violated Belgium's neutrality.

Can William be a pilot and perform royal duties? He seems to think so.

According to CNN’s Max Foster, the Palace says air ambulance will be Duke's ‘primary occupation’ but his roster will take into account royal duties and charitable work. That’s quite a schedule!

Episode 242: Lost Opportunities: WWI and the Birth of the Modern World

    in Military

A hundred years on, in 2014 what insights can we gain from the war that started 100 years ago in August of 2014? What are some of the lessons we need to remember in all four levers of national power; diplomatic, informational, military, and economic - in order to help steer our future course as a nation, and to better understand developing events?

Using his article in The National Interest, World War I: Five Ways Germany Could Have Won the First Battle of the Atlantic as a starting point for an hour long discussion, our guest will be James Holmes, PhD, professor of strategy at the Naval War College and senior fellow at the University of Georgia School of Public and International Affairs.

Jim is former U.S. Navy surface warfare officer, graduating from Vanderbilt University (B.A., mathematics and German) and completed graduate work at Salve Regina University (M.A., international relations), Providence College (M.A., mathematics), and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (M.A.L.D. and Ph.D., international affairs).

His most recent books (with long-time coauthor Toshi Yoshihara) are Strategy in the Second Nuclear Age and Red Star over the Pacific.

Jim has published over 25 book chapters and 150 scholarly essays, along with hundreds of opinion columns, think-tank analyses, and other works. He blogs as the Naval Diplomat and is an occasional contributor to Foreign Policy, The National Interest, War on the Rocks, CNN, and the Naval Institute Proceedings.

Saturday Afternoon with Carolyn: Who instigated WWI and why?

    in Education

Saturday Afternoon with Carolyn Yeager returns to the airwaves! The last edition of this program was on April 12, 2014, a month and a half ago. It may not appear every Saturday, and may even show up on a different day than Saturday (!) if it is more convenient that way, but it will still be called SAWCY and archived under that category.

Also notice that the time has changed from 1pm Central to 2pm Central, one hour later than it was before. This is a better time for me and can still accomodate European guests.

Our current year 2014 is the centenary (100th anniversary) of what came to be called the First World War, originally "The Great War." This program will be the (rather tardy) beginning of shows pertaining to this most terrible of wars which, it is widely agreed, set the stage for the even more savage Second World War.

Studying Our History:Determining Our Future (Part 4)

    in Politics Progressive

This series is using world history to help us, as Progressives think about, discuss, plan and carry out actions and activities as activists within 12 blocks of where we live. We have a very short time to become the citizen patriots our nation calls us to be during this November's elections.

History can inform, illustrate, and highlight both causes and effects from a national or international perspective. In case you missed it, 3/4 of the entire world population is looking to America as their last, best hope for freedom. Tyranny is very much alive and well, and many would claim that statement to be true right here in the USA. Can history inform us? Will we dare, as citizen to look at, evaluate, process and understand our history well enough, soon enough to make our future history reflect our current realities, goals, plans and dreams as Americans?

November's election will surely answer that question. Which answer do you wish it to be, and which answer should it, in fact, be? In this episode, we are going to frame our discorse around the period of World War and Depression.  WWI (The Great War), The Great Depression, and WW II have much to teach in in terms of who we were, who we are today, and who we could become tomorrow.

Many in today's American Society talk as if solutions used during these historic times would be preferred for those who find themselves living in a time, a condition, and a land they barely recognize. Fear of power is real, and palpable--and possibly for a very good reason. As the November election approaches, the important question this show always tries to address comes clearly into view:

What are YOU going to do about it?

Call us and let your voice be heard. Join us in our lively chat room and engage the conversation.

    We're on the air!

    We'll see YOU there!

The Heretics' Hour: Europe commemorates WWI Centennial

    in Education

Carolyn Yeager covers the events, speeches and news stories of our European and Anglo-American “leaders” as they go through the motions of remembering the “official” history according to the One World Order. Hypocisy in action! But also, public interest seems to be weak to non-existant. Also in the program:

    The Ehrenmarsch for the victims of Allied wartime and postwar crimes took place on Saturday in Stuttgart, Germany;
More on the “Platterhof speech” which is now posted here.

    in News

Today is the birthday of Germany's Friedrich III. Would the war have been different had he lived? A more reasonable, democratic kaiser could have made a huge difference in relation to Britain and Russia. Instead of the paranoid Wilhelm, Friedrich may have been more even-handed and sensible.

That is today's highlight. Also, royal news happening now. Join me for a great show! You don't want to miss it.
