International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day in some places, is a celebration of laborers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labor movement, anarchists, socialists, and communists and occurs every year on May Day, 1 May, which also coincides with the Celtic spring festival. The date was chosen for International Workers' Day by the Second International to commemorate the Haymarket affair, which occurred in Chicago on 4 May 1886. This Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
Being a traditional European spring celebration, May Day is a national public holiday in many countries, but in only some of those countries it is celebrated specifically as "Labour Day" or "International Workers' Day". Some countries celebrate a Labour Day on other dates significant to them, such as the United States which celebrates Labor Day on the first Monday of September.
Johnny Strozier was a Georgia prisoner for 46 years (from 1968 to 2013) and served about 15 of those years in solitary confinement. He was initially arrested at age 6, when he and friends burglarized an Atlanta warehouse to steal cigarettes for family members and candy. He was imprisoned at age 10. His sentence was lengthened to 90 years after assaulting a prison guard. Strozier's warden told him he would never exit prison alive because he often escaped and was involved in gang activity, but Strozier changed. He became a Christian in the 1980s. Strozier became active in church, married, and gained his high school diploma while still incarcerated. He also became a certified cook and brick mason. Since prison release, Strozier works, counsels youths, and faithfully attends church. Strozier assembled a group of churches and individuals to give other released inmates subsistence assistance, encouragement, and spiritual brotherhood.
Strozier will share information about reentry opportunities, the importance of avoiding behavior that leads to incarceration, and he plans interviews with persons who can share valuable information that will improve lives of former inmates and at-risk youths. Phone Strozier at 678.516.4993.

Another week, another minority unfortunately dies at the hands of our nations finest. Yes our boys in blue don't seem to be slowing their roll of murder and mayhem. The story is similar to others, yet the details and laws that aided in the mishandling are slightly different.
Young Freddie Gray wasn't shot in the back. Details about how roughed up he was at the time of arrest differ, but one detail of this case made the public cringe, if for nothing more than the fact that the police couldn't reveal, by statute, what had happened to this young man after being loaded into the paddy wagon, not to mention his original sin was making eye contact and possibly heading the other direction.
After the police gave light chase, the apprehended him, restrained him with handcuffs, and caused enough pain that he was screaming in agony while being loaded into the wagon. They drove to the police precinct, and in that spat of time, Freddie's neck was 80% separated from his spine. They finally got him medical attention, where he slipped into a coma and passed away within a week.
Police offered no explanation, and why should they, Maryland has a law enforcement bill of rights that grants cops 10 to get their stories straight. As is now routine, angry protests followed, at first peaceful, but as Baltimore is a powder keg of inequality and racial tension, it soon escalated into riots the likes of which haven't happened since the great riots of the 60s when MLK was assassinated.
Is it finally time to address the underlying issues plaguing our society? What are they, and how to we appease the communities that are currently being disenfranchised by the symptoms of this divisive issue. The police are low hanging fruit in this grand problem. What is the root of it?

If God is infallible, why didn't he make the people who wrote the scripture more clear about the definitive rules and guidelines? Why cause such chaos, a line in the sand even when people believe in the same root faith?
Every religion interpreted the bible with their own preconcieved morality" how can anyone want to be a part of something that just seems so... confusing?
Believers consider as pros
- Calming the fear of death and the positivity of a new beginning after death.
- Giving hope when you are in a place where you feel hopeless.
- Strength to continue through harsh events through prayer and fellowship.
- Knowing your place in life/ Being assured that you are being led positively, even through hard times.
Closer look .... Human Rights Violations. child abuse sexually, physically, and mentally is rampant in all religion to some extent as they form the minds to accept and believe in them. Prostitution in the Hindu culture, arranged marriages to young girls. Bodily integrity violations of baby boys and African girls entering womanhood. Not helping rape victims, even calling THEM the criminal. Deaths for being homosexual, for being a different religion, for not covering up enough or for criticizing a religion. My touch on Voo-Doo is the horrendous things they do to the Albino africans. They are essentially cut apart and cold on the black market. Mostly children.
The Authentic Woman Host, Shannon Fisher, is excited to welcome her guest this week: Shannon Keith, President and Founder of the Beagle Freedom Project (BFP). Keith's organization fights for animal rights on many levels, from fighting for legislation requiring humane treatment of laboratory animals to physically rescuing beagles used in laboratory testing and helping them assimilate into life outside of the lab - and ultimately finding them loving homes.
Beagles are the most popular breed for lab use because of their friendly, docile, trusting, forgiving, people-pleasing personalities. Most beagles used in experiments have never seen grass, the sun, or anything outside the walls of a laboratory. They have received little or no affection & are often afraid of people. Beagle Freedom Project is doing some amazing work in bringing joy & love to these animals.
The Authentic Woman is a weekly radio show hosted by women's rights leader, Shannon Fisher, offering perspectives on the female experience in America.
