Harriet Tubman and Quakers = Underground Railroad

    in Politics Conservative

Tubman's organizing ability was key to her success -- she had to work with supporters on the clandestine Underground Railroad, as well as get messages to the slaves, since she met them away from their plantations to avoid detection. They usually left on a Saturday evening, as the Sabbath might delay anyone noticing their absence for another day, and if anyone did note their flight, the Sabbath would certainly delay anyone from organizing an effective pursuit or publishing a reward.

Tubman was only about five feet tall, but she was smart and she was strong -- and she carried a long rifle. She used the rifle not only to intimidate pro-slavery people they might meet, but also to keep any of the slaves from backing out. She threatened any who seemed like they were about to leave, telling them that "dead Negroes tell no tales." A slave who returned from one of these trips could betray too many secrets: who had helped, what paths the flight had taken, how messages were passed..

    Quakers Released Slaves

Not only did many Quakers release their slaves, but they saw to it that they could take care of themselves, teaching them to read and write and, in many cases, seeing that they were escorted to states or territories where they could live in freedom.

Quaker John Woolman was involved with the abolitionist movement from an early date. He traveled the countryside, preaching against slavery. Woolman, born in 1720, became convinced that slavery was wrong when, at the age 20, he was asked by his employer to write a bill of sale for a slave girl. He did write it, but told his boss that he “believed slave-keeping to be a practice inconsistent with the Christian religion.” Shortly after this incident, Woodman left his job to travel and was instrumental in spreading the abolitionist message.

Who is the anti-christ?? Part Two

    in History

Messenger is gone, but the message lives on. All false religions stem from the papacy. The pope's agenda unites the world under all religions as one.  It is works-based salvation, separating from the only true religion that teaches, we are saved by grace alone, lest any man should boast.  Any Christian who thinks that knowing who Antichrist is doesn't matter, that we should just focus on Christ, is deceived. It makes them uncomfortable because knowing that the papacy is  anti-christ, takes away the comforts, the luxuries of living happily ever after.  It compels us to stand up, speak out and reveal the false gospel among us.   Instead, under the pretext of living for Jesus, more nobly then the martyrs of Jesus, they would rather live for themselves.  I would challenge any Christian with that view to realize, God saved us to reveal Himself to the world. Your body doesn't belong to you if you belong to the Body of Christ.  Should you cast aside the eyes that saw the papacy murdering God's people?  Should you speak against the mouths of Luther, Zwingle, Erasmus, Tyndale, Knox, Calvin, Latimer, Ridley, Cranmer, Hooper, and others, that were associated with the “Reformation” that defended the scriptures against the deception of the papacy?  Be humbled, lest ye fall.  The more we know Christ, the more the papacy deception stands out to the children of God.  The Bible says we would know, as with any other prophecy foretold.  History reveals him to us, just as with any other prophecy given to us in the Bible. Believe, Repent and Rest in the WORD.

  • Cancelled until further notice Philmchology w/Brenda B: The Wizard of Oz

    in Film

The Wizard of Oz is a story that was much beloved long before the epic production that remains in our hearts always. Here's the scene of meeting the cowardly lion the first time.

What does the movie tell us psychologically about ourselves, our wishes, and dreams?  There were wonderful instances of symbolism portrayed in the film that doesn't take a professional to interpret as we see Dorothy and her ranch hands shift to an alternate reality.

This movie truly affected people's imaginations and wonder.  I have met people over the years who swore that the movie was only in black and white!  One year I rented the reel to reel and a projector from the Seattle Public Library, made up a bunch of popcorn and showed the movie to the children in the neighborhood where I was living.  The first reel everything was in a type of black & white Sepia antique color, but the second reel was totally in brilliant color as Dorothy left the farmhouse in Oz.  Think about what that says about "real" life versus our imaginations, which are taken to be be much more colorful and amazing than Midwestern farm life!

Join us for a wonderful talk about the psychology behind this brilliant movie along with the reasons the movie remains ageless and beloved, which it most likely will remain long after we're all gone and dead.
