Many minorities think that white people have certain privileges that they don't have. But what exactly is white privilege and is it the same as racism. We will discuss it's history, privileges vs. rights and it's affects on African Americans. All of this and your phone calls are always welcomed. Let's talk about this very important issue.
"White Privilege seems to be a big issue on the campus of the University of Missouri. How is privilege connected to the W-word?"
This installment of The Forbidden Fruit will discuss the origin of white privilege and how it has adversely affected all races in America, including the "white race". Some people want to deny the existence of white privilege. White privilege comes in many forms. White Privilege can be as invisable and deadly as Carbon Monoxide, and as obvious and destructive as an atomic bomb. The conception of White Privilege is deeply rooted in the old strategy of Divide & Conquer. The enemy you were taught to hate, may not be the enemy at all.

This installment of The Forbidden Fruit will look at the subtle affect of white privilege on Black America. With the current social unrest moving throughout the country, the opinions are racially divided. Some people are quick to address the riots as an isolated incidents and not the by-product of a much bigger and more complex problem. How can you ask Black America to forget the past, suck it up and move on? The past is the past, so leave it there..right? Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. Subtle White Privilege can be more dangerous than in your face racism. We all need to get along, but at the same time, we have to understand our differences. It's politically correct to say that you don't see color, but is that healthy? Let's address this issue head-on and not just let it fester. There has been a lot of hurt that has been swept under the rug. That rug is getting awfully bumpy.
What white america is asking black america to do, is like an angry mob breaking into your house, rapping the women, beating the men, stealing all the valuables in the house, then setting it on fire, and then a week later showing up and asking you to just don't ever mention it again and suck it up and move on. Yes, you can suck it up and move on, but some very important steps are missing. The attacker never owned up to it, nor did he apologize, nor did he offer to make it right economically. He just expected you to pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, when you didn't have any boots to start with. I think we need this talk here on The Fruit.

White Privilege - 1) A right, advantage, or immunity granted to or enjoyed by white persons beyond the common advantage of all others; 2) an exemption in many particular cases from certain burdens or liabilities; 3) A special advantage or benefit of white persons; 4) display of white privilege, a social expression of a white person or persons demanding to be treated as a member or members of the socially privileged class.
Today, we are afforded the gains of astounding technical advantages that range from phones being the size of credit cards, to cars that start with the push of a button. However, with all the creations and inventions that are supposed to make our lives easier and more enjoyable, we still are battling with prejudice and racism.
On this episode of Hot Topics Talk Radio, we’re going to tackle the term and subject matter of white privilege, as it relates to how we (black and white) live among each other, and how some may feel about what advantage they have over another simply because of the color of their skin.
Join us on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at 8:00pm PST/11:00pm EST, to discuss the “Face of White Privilege”, and how it shows up in our everyday lives.

White privilege (or white skin privilege) is a term for societal privileges that benefit white people in western countries beyond what is commonly experienced by the non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances.
“Privilege exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything they’ve done or failed to do. Access to privilege doesn’t determine one’s outcomes, but it is definitely an asset that makes it more likely that whatever talent, ability, and aspirations a person with privilege has will result in something positive for them.” ~Peggy McIntosh
“White Privilege is the other side of racism. Unless we name it, we are in danger of wallowing in guilt or moral outrage with no idea of how to move beyond them. It is often easier to deplore racism and its effects than to take responsibility for the privileges some of us receive as a result of it… once we understand how white privilege operates, we can begin addressing it on an individual and institutional basis.” ~Paula Rothenberg
"I can completely understand why broke white folks get pissed when the word 'privilege' is thrown around...I was constantly discriminated against because of my poverty and those wounds still run very deep...[But] The concept of intersectionality recognizes that people can be privileged in some ways and definitely not in others." ~Gina Crosley-Corcoran
White guilt is the individual or collective guilt felt by some white people for harm resulting from racist treatment of people of color by whites both historically and currently. White guilt has been described as one of the psychosocial costs of racism for white individuals along with empathy (sadness and anger) for victims of racism and fear of non-whites.
