What do virtual reality and gaming have to do with Parkinson’s disease? In this show, Dr. Nathan B. Herz, a professor of occupational therapy at Georgia Health Sciences University, discusses gaming technologies that potentially can slow the progression of symptoms and increase function in individuals with Parkinson’s disease. For nearly a decade, Dr. Herz has conducted research using the Wii Gaming System with clients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at the GHSU Movement Disorders Program, a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence.

Hundalasiliah! (Prince fans, do the research) That's the battle cry to our ever expanding listenership, devotees and supporters. Join Daryll B., Capt. Kirk and Dburt for yet another Grindhouse Mashup broadcast, courtesy of Afronerd Radio airing this Saturday at 6pm EST. This week's compendium of topical arrangements that are up for discussion are: we knew that a Supergirl TV series had been greenlighted but now that CBS appears to be her new home.....is it a good fit? ; Deadpool fans rejoice! Your favorite "merc with a mouth" gets a novie release date for winter 2016 with Ryan Reynolds no less; Patrick Warburton returns (allegedly) to The Tick; in light of the upcoming Long Beach Comic Con announcing its new and much deserved Dwayne McDuffie Award, is there anyone that has effectively taken the reins of the late great comic animator/creator?; Oscar nominated actress, Viola Davis teams up with screenwriter/director, Shonda Rhimes for ABC's How To Get Away With Murder TV series; and speaking of Ms. Rhimes, she defends herself against a NY Times critic's assertion that she is an "angry Black woman" ; just how safe is President Obama? A fence jumper successfully gets into the White House moments after the POTUS left the famed Camp David retreat; the NFL saga continues-evidence is mounting that the Ravens witnessed the Ray Rice video in its entirety the first time around and lastly, if time permits, the crew picks up from last week's show topic-documentarian, Michael Moore's belief that President Obama's legacy will be solely relegated to being the nation's first Black president. Greetings to our stalwart listenership and the ever expanding Afronerd Radio universe! It appears that it's time to revisit our popular Grindhouse Mashup/Mixtape (The Comic Shoppe+Afronerd Radio) show airing this Saturday at 6pm. Join Daryll B., Capt. Kirk and Dburt as they unravel the following pop, pulp and political issues for the week: Daryll briefly weighs in on the Atlanta sports franchise(s) scandals in addition to the Ray Rice scandal; more comic book IPs are getting greenlighted for TV-Supergirl and Titans are forthcoming; and in zombie news, The Walking Dead gets a spinoff show (what, no comic, first?) and Syfy's Z Nation premieres; The Root and "Black Twitter" slam a recent Vogue piece highlighting large female posteriors as a "White" phenomenon; famed jazz saxophonist, Kenny G appears to have gotten the last laugh relating to his critics (just look at his stock portfolio); Dburt continues highlighting the success of a fellow "afronerd" and Youtube sensation, Marques Brownlee; courtesy of Comics Alliance, Marvel's editor-in-chief Axel Alonso discusses his thoughts on how he envisions comic industry’s treatment of female characters as well as his own diversity initiatives; the new Destiny video game has a strong 500m shipped debut and time constraints notwithstanding, the crew scans the globe in more "acting White" news stories (this is still happening?). Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620. Imperius rex, minstrels!
Welcome to another episode of Afronerd Radio's Mid Week in Review! Join Dburt and Captain Kirk this Wednesday (7:30pm EST) as they check their "tricorders" and extrapolate the latest news events that have occurred during this past (mid) week. Our sensors are detecting a forthcoming discussion on the following topics: yet more NFL shenanigans (Adrian Peterson child abuse allegations; Rihanna vs the NFL; sponsors vs the NFL) ; a new biography is released detailing the trials, tribulations and triumphs of Dr. Bill Cosby; progressive filmmaker/documentarian, Michael Moore posits that President Obama's legacy will be solely related to being the first Black president; Dburt has concerns about scientific experimentation involving human brain cells being implanted in mice with claims of increased intelligence; some Chicagoans are protesting against police shootings of three Black men in just as many weeks (no protests for the more frequent non police related gun violence though?); the story of Django actress, Daniele Watts reportedly being profiled and handcuffed by LAPD for publicly kissing her White boyfriend may be falling apart based upon further scrutiny and lastly, Academy award winning actress, Lupita Nyongo's message of being comfortable in one's own skin to the Sesame Street audience makes her even more endearing. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.

Listen in and hear Fred and Joanne share their family's experience with the Bionic Pancreas this summer at the Clara Barton Center.
Fred and Joanne Cunha have been married for 14 years and have three children; 7-year-old Elise (diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 12 months), 4-year-old Mattias and almost-2-year-old Lucas. They currently live in Dallas after living in San Francisco and Vancouver. Fred was born and raised in Lisbon and Joanne was born in Montreal but grew up in Vancouver.
Fred started Team Elise (www.teamelise.com) two weeks after Elise’s diagnosis and over the last 5 years they have had over 800 people walking for Team Elise in the United States, Canada, Portugal and Mozambique and have raised over $70,000 for JDRF.
Joanne started Death of a Pancreas (www.deathofapancreas.com) two months after Elise’s diagnosis where she blogs about type 1 diabetes. She also created the animated “What NOT to say to the parent of a type 1 diabetic” video.
