We're going to keep this week's description short, sweet and POSITIVE (as best we can)! Join Dburt and Capt, Kirk for another fact finding expedition commonly referred to as The Mid Week in Review, courtesy of Afronerd Radio airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm (EST). The topics to be analyzed are: we finally get to the two HS students of color that garnered national media attention by receiving multiple Ivy League acceptance letters; Dburt revisits and "deconstructs" progressive Black aversion to the notion of respectability politics; a homeless student who lived in San Jose barbershop graduates from law school; Dburt will probably still bring how great Netflix' Daredevil is and how it is a game changer for future small and silver screen projects; a video by self described "redneck" named Dixon appears to be going viral due to a heartfelt rant about the need to end white supremacy (or is it a test reel.....we'll explain); highlighting a new crowdsource film project by famed director, Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust). And lastly, a former inmate cuts his dreads and encourages the youth to clean up their image (is this respectability politics, intelligence or survival?). *Oh and Taraji P Henson gets called back to Person of Interest...really? (minstrel ratings boost?) Call the hosts live ar 646-915-9620.

Buenos Dias, people! Check out the latest episode of our infamous Mid Week in Review broadcast, airing this Wednesday at 7:30pm EST. Join Capt. Kirk and Dburt as they discuss the following issues: rapper, Jay-z and friends want you to buy a Tidal music streaming service but what about that in exchange for some (if any) social stances; South African humorist, Trevor Noah has been tapped to replace John Stewart but not without controversy; Dburt waxes about a NY Daily News piece about a woman who refuses to allow her son to visit his incarcerated father (there's a twist here folks); FLOTUS participates in the Black Girls Rock event raising questions about race and tribalism; Indiana and California bills spark a national debate between religious and marriage equality proponents; further evidence that people still want classic hip hop! rap legends, De la Soul collect more than 220K in less than 2 days from their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign (they were asking for 110K). And lastly, we will attempt to address some of the topics that we failed to address from previous shows. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.
Yara Kaleemah was born in Newark, NJ in the early 90's. As a child she would spend hours writing stories. When her friends were outside, playing, she was in the house writing. Being that she was an only child she had a lot of time on her hands. Naturally, when people asked what she wanted to be when she grew up she would say "an author."
In 2013, Yara published her first novella, Too Much to Chew. It was the greatest accomplishment. Soon after came three more outstanding urban fiction novels. Then, she started S.W.A.G Productions. Wanting to establish something creative, the acronym stands for Strong Women Achieving Greatness. SWAG Productions is a platform for self-published authors. The company offers services such as editing, proofreading, and typing.
Now, Yara is working hard at school and becoming a bestselling author. She is excited to embark on this new journey with SWAG Productions and fE Mag. Even though sometimes it is difficult to juggle motherhood, being a wife, a student, an author, and a publisher, she manages. With hard work and dedication she will achieve all of her goals.

CP Kelley joins us talking about his career as a Country Music Recording Artist. CP released his first full length tribute album "Evolution" in November 2014. It has a variety of tribute songs to country music legends that inspired his passion for music. Included are two singles "Run" and "Common Courtesy" which are originals to CP Kelley.
He's currently back in the studio working on his next full length album with all original songs called "Absolute Redemption".
It all started by me telling Slider that WD-40 was mostly fish oil. Boy, was I wrong! From there, this show developed. What urban legends have we heard about that we thought were true but actually weren't became the topic of this show. Join us this Thursday, April 16th at 5:00 PM Eastern, 4:00 PM Central and 10:00 PM UK to find out if what you thought was true is really false!
