    in Education

    Group members will discuss:

The role that resistance to slavery played in pre-emancipation Jamaica

What was so revolutionary about the philosophy and opinions of Marcus Garvey?

What can be learned from the "livity” of Rastafari and how does it tie in with resistance to oppression? Was it expressed in the same way as the resistance of the Maroons?

WKPJB Radio presents Rape Culture: The Bill Cosby

    in Poetry

Rape culture is a concept in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. Behaviors commonly associated with rape culture include victim blaming, sexual objectification, trivializing rape, denial of widespread rape, refusing to acknowledge the harm of some forms of sexual violence, or some combination of these. There is evidence to suggest that rape culture is correlated with other social factors and behaviors. Rape myths, victim blaming, and trivialization of rape have been found to be positively correlated with racism, sexism, homophobia, ageism, classism, religious intolerance and other forms of discrimination.

The most recent case with Bill Cosby has sparked the need to have this discussion. Both men and women, can be raped. Both men AND women can be blamed for rape. I want to have an open, adult discussion about it.
