Wicked Insurance Matters with Greg Durette: TURKEY TABLE TALK

    in Family

What is Turkey Table Talk?  Well, hopefully it's not a long conversation with the big hunk of steaming protein in the middle of your table!

It is about the importance of seizing the opportunity to have some real, meaningful conversations with the family members you might only see on holidays such as Thanksgiving.  Sure it is good to have all the "catch up" conversations about what people are up to but, what about the stuff that really matters?

How are our grandparents/parents managing their money these days?
Are they paying their bills okay?
Is my aunt a victim of elder financial abuse?
Have there been any changes in their healthcare?
Have they had any problems online?
Do they use support services in the community?
How are they getting around town?

These are just some of the things you want and need to know but, somehow never get around to asking.  Sometimes, many red flags are missed that could have otherwise been noticed, thereby preventing a bad situation from developing or getting out of hand.

So sit back and tune in to learn how to get these important subjects out in the open.  You will be surprised how good everyone will feel about it once you do.

The Female Solution: Are We Introducing Too Much Sex To Children Too Soon?

    in Religion

There was a time when childhood was a period of innocence. Today, with the Internet sending graphic sexual images to every device at our fingertips, that childhood innocence is gone. Are we introducing too much sex too soon to our children? How is it affecting them? There is a scene inSpike Lee's controversial, new film Chiraq in which the lead Character, played by Nick,Cannon has a flashback to a childhood memory in which he walks in on his mother having sex. It gives some insight as to why he later has such disrespect for women. There is a reason why so many children are conceived without love or intention by parents. How do we reclaim innocence for our children and introduce sexuality to them with the wholesome spiritual understanding in a manner that is age appropriate? How dowe protect them from the emotional trauma of public images of too much sex too soon?

This One Step - Older Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse

Wednesdays we talk about finding support after breaking our silence.

Polly Moore grew up with six siblings in Mobile, Alabama, but was only 8 years old when her father died of lung cancer. Soon two neighborhood boys began to molest her, friends of her older twin brothers. A couple of years later she was assaulted by another neighbor and later by her older brother. She was able to break away from the abuse at the age of twelve, but was by then deep in the darkness of isolation. Polly is now a mother and grandmother, and has lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years. She is contemplating returning to finish her final year at Western Carolina University where she majored in Accounting, and has become a devoted advocate for adult survivors of Child Sexual Abuse.

She began her organization, This One Step, to help older survivors of Child Sexual Abuse deal with the trama of being part of what she has named, "The Unknown Generation"  A generation of survivors who had nowhere to go for support.  In her late teens she began writing as a coping mechanism to deal with the PTSD.  Her three books, "Cider Blocks and Oven Racks", "Billy Wayne's Christmas Train" and "The Unknown Generation" will be available in early 2016.  She has written many southern short stories which have been published in different publications.  She is now hosting her own blogtalk radio show Monday through Friday beginning at 6:00am.

The PODcast #12: Battle for the bean casserole

    in Football

Pride Of Detroit finds itself in the midst of a win streak! We don't know what to do with ourselves. Let's talk...

(3:45): ...about the Oakland game! Where do we start in talking about a game of surprisingly competent football for the Lions? What's changing in our opinions of the season? How did the defense get it turned around? Can Caldwell actually win his way to keeping his job or is it just the fear of fans?

(22:40): ...about Philadelphia and Thanksgiving! Amazing what two wins can do for attitudes as the crew eyes a third straight Lions victory and defends Thanksgiving yet again. What's going on with the Eagles? Also, Jeremy really wants to see the Lions beat Mark Sanchez.

(32:20) ...about the NFL? We don't have a lot to talk about, so we end up talking about some league-wide news. Bad refereeing, Case Keenum, and Carolina Panthers social media.

(40:20) ...about reader questions! A big ol' fight breaks out over bean casserole and other Thanksgiving sides.
