Breaking the Cycle of Racial Violence in America

    in Culture

Now more than ever, America needs more open and inclusive conversations about the stereotypes on police protection, police brutality, crime, civil liberties, public safety, and social justice in the context of race.

After many years of dissecting the driving factors on the issue of fragmentation and cohesion in American society, many of the same tragedies of error we've seen for years on race controversies continues to pervades the society. Race discussions, debate on race, or even race analysis are the so called inequality taboo topic of conversation in America. Silence on the issue of race only increases suspicions and erratic responses.

We are indeed in a delicate time.

In any democracy, the government belongs to the people, and the police, which exist within the executive branch – enforcing the law, essentially serve as a buffer of balance between individuals and between people -- maintaining law, order, safety and most importantly peace. If a police error results in a tragedy, the police should be the first to demonstrate contrition, not defense of erratic positions. Otherwise, the society is at risk of an increasing political totalitarianism. It is unimaginable for any cultural group to live inequitably compared to the rest of its pairs in the same country, especially one that promises individualism, equal rights before the law, and the four freedoms. And just as one group should not be a burden to another, so should none be sustained at the expense of the other.

What You Don't Know About Male Sexual Abuse with Donald Jeffries Mens Advocate

    in Self Help

As a society, when we think of rape or sexual abuse we are likely to assume that the victims are female and the perpretrators are male. That is a gross misconception. There are many more female perpretrators and male victims than most of us are aware of.

Today's special guest Donald B. Jeffries, President/Executive Director and founder of Mariposa Men’s Wellness Institute, a nonprofit focused on the promotion of men's emotional wellness through education and training, is here to discuss the cultural blindness that exists concerning the prevalence of male sexual abuse and the profound negative effects this abuse has on male victims.

Researchers have found that 1 in 6 men (a modest estimate) have been sexually abused before the age of 18. And alarming statistics show that women can and do sexually abuse and assault adult men, though it rarely gets reported. The unfortunate truth is that because males simply aren’t allowed to be victims (or at least not allowed to be seen as such), they are are often more emotionally damaged than females by society’s refusal or reluctance to accept their victimization.

The goal of this show is to raise awareness of the prevalence of male sexual abuse, thereby raising the level of help, compassion, and healing that is available to these victims.

This will be a very powerful show. Be sure to save the date and tune in .

  • Congressman Danny Davis Considers Presenting New Policing for Police and Prisons

    in Women

Our Blogtalk radio family has worked together to create two pieces of legislation, one concerning Police and the other concerning Prisons. Today Congressman Danny Davis of the 7th District will listen to these suggestions and guide us through the process of how these ideas can be presented to Congress made into laws. The proposed legislation is as follows:

Prisons: 1) Remove the objective to keep these as profit making ventures. Change the objective to one of eventually closing them all, "going out of business." 2) Make the objective to restore to wholeness those who have committed offenses against others, not punishment or vengeance for their crime. 3) Release everyone who is not jailed for a violent offence. 4) Release everyone incarcerated for drug trafficking or using drugs in which no weapons or acts of violence were involved. 5) Allow those who are in jail because they cannot pay a bond to be immediately released, if jailed for a non-violent offense. 6) Provide psychological evaluations and counseling services for violent offenders serving time in prison. 7) Provide education for those incarcerated, if they do not have a high school diploma. 8) Provide vocational training for those who are inside, preparing them for when they will be released. 9) Allow those serving long time or life sentences to serve the community by talking to errant youth in a "scared straight" program. 10) Expunge all records after the person has served time and been released, and do not require any reference or admission of committing a felony on an job applications.

    NFL and

    in Family

Over the last couple of months the spotlight has been on the NFL to address the numerous past and current reports involving violence against women from NFL players.  While this is not a new conversation or dynamic, it has risen to a level that is demanding an immediate and appropriate response.

Recognizing that nearly 70% of the NFL players are Black and the face of this reoccurring violence is portrayed as representing the also disproportional intimate partner violence that is experience in the Black community over all, we will convene a discussion to address the role of the Black community and particularly Black women in helping to frame a culturally competent response from the NFL?  We will also discuss the Black community perception of  "whooping," our children and the need for this punishment?
