I am a student; a continual learner. For me, the journey of growth and evolution has no finish line.
I pay attention to the spiritual teachers that inspire me and challenge me to think about my journey and my work in a new way, such as Elizabeth Gilbert, Rob Bell, Elizabeth Lesser, Marianne Williamson, Byron Katie & Esther Hicks.
But if we want to know where to find the greatest spiritual teachers for our lives, we need look no further than our closest personal relationships.
Unlike traditional teachers who are there to impart wisdom, our closest relationships are there to expose all the parts of us that we don’t really want to own, to teach us about forgiveness and acceptance, to bring to light our beliefs about our ability to love and be loved.
How Unimaginative people (in charge at schools) can Impact the Lives of People Trying To Do More Interesting Things!
What can a brand new 24-year-old fifth-grade teacher do to change the status-quo in an inner-city school?
Esmé Raji Codell, author of Educating Esmé, has revolutionized and scandalized the system, winning Teacher of the Year award from the International Teaching Association for her non-traditional methods.
The importance of Oral Reading in class and always. For parents and principals alike who don't otherwise have a view into the classroom, Esmé chronicles the chaos and breakthroughs as she helps kids find confidence in their abilities across the board at an age when they are psychologically discovering what they're good at.

Buddy Acappella will be here to sing a very special rendition of "Silent Night." The IWS Players will also be here to do the traditional reading of "T'was the Night Before Christmas" also. On top of that there will be Christmas greetings from all of our correspondents, many fans of the show and maybe even a few celebrities.
Matt and Jay will also talk best and worst presents along with best and worst Christmas traditions. Plus there will also be some discussion about certain package deliver companies and how they can't be trusted to pack fragile items properly. Aaaaaaaaaaand there might be some discussion about current events like the stunning Cuba announcement this week by President Obama. Oh and the hacked Sony e-mails, North Korea, The Interview and all the cowards backing down from terrorists.
All this and YOUR CALLS! Be sure to join in and even call us up to make this true holly jolly Christmas!
9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 12/21/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Housers’s sermon. First reading - 2 Samuel 7: 1-11, 16. Gospel - Luke 1:26-38. King David thinks he defeats Israel’s enemies and decides to build God a house - like his palace. However the reason Israel defeated their enemies was the hand of God. God did it for them so David wanted to do something for God. Works righteousness, idolatry, foolishness and vanity. (God didn’t ask David to build him a fancy temple.)
In the gospel, God dwells in Mary’s womb so He can take His place amongst us. It’s just Mary - nothing fancy. However the Lord favored her. The gospel is God doing the work for us - not the other way around. Jesus defeats the real enemies; satan, the world and our sinful human nature. He brings about our salvation and victory over sin.
The child in the manger is better for marketing than it is for salvation, so I choose to speak more of what matters most
Necrophelia, pedophelia, and creationism all have a place at the table on tonight's show. The war on Christmas has now apparently been won and isn't it just like the Christian Church to be a little too late on changing the Doctrine of Discovery. The Satanic Temple expanding chapters starting in Detroit. A case in the Satanic Panic comes to a head in Texas. The Church of Satan defines itself once again, So listen Already!
Peace Family I Am extremely excited about this program.. In the first half of the program we will have Bro.Jihad and Bro.James of Dynasty Hip-Hop Incorporated Mentoring Program (DHHI) which is designed to utilize hip-hop, and it's industry to educate, motivate and empower youth with the training, and skills to become more productive members of society. The second half we will be joined by Mama Todd Twala the visionary, creator, and director of a Powerful South African Musical With a cast of 32 of South Africa’s brightest and most versatile young performers, singers, drummers and dancers, AFRICA UMOJA – The Spirit of Togetherness, 20 Years of Freedom and Democracy Tour is a joyous celebration of dynamic talent, thrilling energy, great voices and sensual dances that sweep across the bright and vibrant South African traditional landscape. Traveling on the beats of drums, from the dusty streets of Soweto to all the corners of the world’s best and biggest stages, AFRICA UMOJA – which in Zulu means ‘together’ – tells the moving tale of indigenous South African music and dance from the earliest rhythms to the current club sounds of kwaito. Audiences all over the world have embraced the traditional love songs, lullabies and other musical expressions of rural life. They have also cried along in the city streets listening to music reflecting the pain of the migrant laborers and their families. The tale dances through sheebeens and the cultural melting-pot of Sophiatown. The heart is saddened by cold stories of forced removals yet the feet continue to stomp along with the explosions of gumboot dancing. The international audiences will relate to names such as Miriam Makeba (Mama Africa) and the late Dolly Radebe, while a thread of gospel music running through the tale recalls the huge helpings of faith and courage. This saw black South Africans through some of the country’s stormiest historical passages.
Dr. Applewhite discusses the reasons why parents drop-out of college and the workforce. These are parents categorized as "non-traditional" adult learners/students that do not fit the stereotype held of the "traditional" college student. According to research, nearly two-thirds of "non-traditional" adult college students in the U.S. drop out prior to graduation! This is largely due to the lack of planning in all areas of life, sound advisement, and counseling intervention. Adult students with a learning or mental disability, who are parents, carry the additional responsibility of being a role model for their own children to finish school and learning to advocate for accommodations. Hear a unique insight on working parents with mental illness in light of Miriam Carey's shooting incident last year. This show will also shed light on the many alarming reasons Adult Learners/Students drop-out and struggle with the idea of going to back to school and finishing the courses started. Awareness is the first step needed to motivate and encourage those struggling to manage family responsibilities, stressful work and school schedules, and even non-visible disabilities. Special Guests are educational experts, Dr. Kelmer Muhammad and Dr. Sarah Tolliver who share ideas about managing stress to prevent drop-out. Join Dr. Applewhite and guests as they discuss how many overcome difficult experiences and transitions, especially Student Veterans with families. Your donation of at least $5 or more will support our radio broadcasts, and allow us to continue helping students and Veterans with disabilities reach their education and workforce goals? Meet author/Pastor Jermaine Gadson. Pastor Gadson will be chatting with me about his book, Tactics, Trends & Traits of the Enemy: Equipping the Believer to Fight Back.
About the book:
This book is a "practical guide" to overcoming struggles that people face in everyday life that may not be easily recognized as spiritual in nature. Many people wrestle with unnecessary heartache, pain, temptations, and depression without knowing the true source of their dilemma. Unlike other books on spiritual warfare, this book takes the spookiness out of the picture, and shows how people experience spiritual battles in subtle things that are presented to them in everyday life. The Devil is real. His tactics are real. But, we need not fear nor be ignorant of his devices.
About the author:
Jermaine Gadson is the Senior Pastor of Faith Ministries, Inc., a non-traditional church located in Birmingham, AL. Prior to starting Faith Ministries, he served as an associate minister, youth minister, and pastor for local churches and ministries in the greater Birmingham area. While, growing up in the Baptist church, he gave his life to Christ at an early age, and is a third generation minister of the Gospel.
He holds a B.A. in Religion with a Concentration in Congregational Studies and a Minor in Classics from Samford University, and a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University. He is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at Beeson Divinity School.
He enjoys reading, writing, sports, outdoors, movies, and spending time with his family. He is happily married to his wife Kristy and they have one beautiful daughter, Khloe.
