Author Nicholas Duncan joins me this week to talk about his book: Tales From A Muzungu
Imagine you are on a plane to a destination you know very little about. On top of that, you don't know anyone else, will be living there for two years, only have a vague idea of what you will be doing, or if it was the right decision. A major comfort is knowing that you aren't the only person having anxiety during this scenario. This is just the beginning of a Peace Corps volunteer’s service. Tales from a Muzungu is about a Peace Corps Volunteer’s two year experience (2010 – 2012) in Uganda. Nicholas Duncan covers the highs and lows of life in Africa by detailing the atmosphere of Uganda and the day to day life of a volunteer. Nicholas writes about his experience with non-profits, adjusting to deep village life, and the surprises of being a muzungu in Africa.

BUT FOR SOME, EXCESSIVE DAYTIME SLEEPINESS CAN BE A SIGN OF A SERIOUS NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER CALLED NARCOLEPSY. AN ESTIMATED ONE IN EVERY TWO-THOUSAND PEOPLE IN THE U.S. HAS THE CONDITION, INCLUDING OUR GUEST.
PROFESSIONAL GOLFER NICOLE JERAY JOINS US NOW TO DISCUSS WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LIVE WITH AND MANAGE THIS CONDITION.
WHAT EXACTLY IS NARCOLEPSY?
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF NARCOLEPSY AND WHICH ONES DID YOU EXPERIENCE?
HOW DID YOU EVENTUALLY GET DIAGNOSED?
WHAT HAS CHANGED NOW THAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE NARCOLEPSY?
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE WHO MAY BE EXPERIENCING SIMILAR SYMPTOMS? / WHERE CAN WE LEARN MORE ABOUT NARCOLEPSY?
Nicole Jeray is a professional golfer, playing on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour since 1994. An Illinois native, she attended Northern Illinois University (NIU), where she won eight titles while playing collegiate golf and the MVP award from 1989 – 1992. Nicole first started to experience narcolepsy-related symptoms in college. She struggled to stay awake during daytime hours and would fall asleep even while exercising. Nicole was diagnosed with narcolepsy in 1996 after a five-year journey of visiting doctors. She ultimately achieved her diagnosis after undergoing a sleep test.

The topic today is, "Do You Know The Source of Your Identity?" Why is this so important? Well, your identity, that is, who you see yourself to be, is the key to what you believe, what and how you think, feel, choose, act, make plans, determined who you married, led to why you did or didn't marry, determines how you deal with problems, even how you created those problems and solved or did not solve those problems. Who you see yourself to be developed the plans and strategies that led to where you find yourself today, how you got there, what you are doing about it, if anyting. Ever heard the expression, "You are where you are today because of your best thinking!"? Or, how about this one, "The person you will be five years from now is directly related to the books you read, what you watch and listen to, and your five most important friends."
Wouldn't you like to know how this all came about? Do I have your attention yet? Well, this subjet got my attention--some fifty plus years ago. I know the world as changed a lot in the past fifty years but the cause/effect relationship that your identity creates has not. and yes, I will look at this topic from the perspective of spirituality, God's Word to us which still rings true today.
