The Day of the Lord
Rebroadcast of the long running radio program, "The Ave Maria Hour", a presentation of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement. www.AtonementFriars.org
First broadcasted in the 1950's, this episode is set in the future ... a story of the future ... when the great events depicted will happen, no man can foretell. But the fact of their happening is foretold in the Bible. This is the story of The Day of the Lord.
Is the day of the Lord a single day??? We open up and expand in this particular episode about the day of the Lord.
In the common understanding the day of the Lord is nothing but destruction for most of mankind what with the multitudes destined for destruction by God himself through judgment and then satan and the anti-christ .... well we have been given a horrific scenario. Then on the other hand we keep hearing of the last day revival .... and in most of the prophetic camp we are told to hunker down and just weather the storm in fearfulness and trembling. So who is right?? All or none or just one viewpoint ?? What if I tell you that these positions are partially right .... would you believe it?
Isa_2:12 For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you." LUKE 10:19
There is a cry in the streets throughout all the Nations of the world that the day of the Lord is at hand and God is going to JUDGE..
But who will God Judge??
What shall it be like when the Almighty decides to visit? Is it desirous that He should do so? Essentially, it depends on one’s obedience to Him in His "absence." For those who have remained righteous, the Day of His visitation will be one of blessing. For the wicked, however, the Day of the Lord will bring judgment, destruction, and terror. The prophets in the Old Testament speak regularly about this visit, building upon a concept introduced in Exodus 32.34. Here, the Lord reveals to Moses His decision to return in judgment of sin at an undisclosed future time. This is the "Day of the Lord" which gradually becomes more vivid in the progress of revelation, especially in the writing prophets.
Day of the LORD Cometh
This is the final teaching in the Day of the LORD series
1Thess 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. (2) For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
The opening of the seventh seal is accompanied by “silence in heaven for about half an hour” (Revelation 8:1). All creation is awed by what is about to happen. The Day of the Lord, the event angels and saints have anticipated for thousands of years, has finally arrived. Centuries of prayers from the saints are symbolically compared to the fragrance of burning incense ascending from the temple altar to the very presence of God in heaven (verses 3-5). The answer to those prayers is now imminent.
“For the day of the Lord draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head. “Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, All the nations will drink continually. They will drink and swallow And become as if they had never existed.
“But on Mount Zion there will be those who escape, And it will be holy. And the house of Jacob will possess their possessions. “Then the house of Jacob will be a fire And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau will be as stubble. And they will set them on fire and consume them, So that there will be no survivor of the house of Esau,” For the Lord has spoken.
Then those of the Negev will possess the mountain of Esau, And those of the Shephelah the Philistine plain; Also, possess the territory of Ephraim and the territory of Samaria, And Benjamin will possess Gilead. And the exiles of this host of the sons of Israel, Who are among the Canaanites as far as Zarephath, And the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Will possess the cities of the Negev. The deliverers will ascend Mount Zion To judge the mountain of Esau, And the kingdom will be the Lord’s.
Savior means deliverer or preserver. A term applied to mighty men, rulers, and ancient gods but supremely in the Bible to Jesus Christ. Basic to the Old Testament is the concept that God is the deliverer of His people. No man could save himself; only God was Savior. In Hebrew savior is a participle, not a noun, which may indicate that in the thought of the Old Testament this term is not so much a title as it is a description of God’s activity in behalf of His people. Although not a Messianic term in the Old Testament, the Messiah is described in the Old Testament as one coming to offer salvation to all nations. Mighty men whom God used as instruments of deliverance for His people were also in the Old Testament...
