The Houston Rockets managed to beat the New Orleans Pelicans at Toyota Center Wednesday night… but just barely. The Rockets couldn’t hit the side of a barn standing still for much of the night. They were 3-of-34 from the 3-point line, and twice they missed 15 in a row. In the last several days, they’ve released guard Marcus Thornton and agreed to a buyout with Ty Lawson. Now it seems they’re about to add a couple of veterans to boost the offense. Hmmm… but their defense is what is their glaring weakness. Well, Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy joins us live to talk Rockets and what’s happening around the NBA.
But first, we talk a little college hoops… in particular the Final Four. With March Madness set to tip off next week… the road to the Final Four in Houston is officially underway. Doug Hall, CEO of the Local Organizing Committee, joins us live with an update on fans can expect in and from Houston in about 30 days.
And of course the NFL Combine was last week and now teams are looking at freeing up salary cap space and free agency. Sources say the Houston Texans are set to part ways with running back Arian Foster. Foster was set to be more than a $6million cap hit in 2016 and he’s recovering from a season ending Achilles injury.
We’ll talk about all this and more… today on Chalktalk!
The Houston Texans have struck free agency gold with two big offensive signings in the last 24 hours. They wrestled quarterback Brock Osweiler from the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos and got running back Lamar Miller from the Dolphins. The deals are $72 million and $26 million respectively. Now we’ll see what the team does in the upcoming draft. After losing offensive guard Brandon Brooks to the eagles they signed former Chiefs guard Jeff Allen to a 4-year deal. Sports agent Corey Williams helps us break it all down on today’s show.
March Madness is officially underway with conference tournaments taking place all over the country. On Sunday, the NCAA selection committee will announce its bracket for this year’s tournament. If you’ve ever wondered how this process works you’re in luck Kris Gardner of the Houston Roundball Review took part in the mock selection in Indy a few weeks ago and joins us today to break it all down.
We’ll also check in on what’s happening the Astros in Spring Training and the Rockets as they continue their push to make the playoffs. All this and more on Chalktalk!

The New York Jets in a Must win situation - did'nt. They're no longer in the AFC Wildcard Picture. The Texans have Some quality Defensive Players and one special wide reciever named DeAndre Hopkins.
The Jets lost more than a game, more than a playoff spot. They lost their star Defensive back Darrelle Revis to a concussion and Center Nick Mangold to a right hand injury that required stitches.
Each week the New York Jets have had a new and different problem costing them the game; excepting their Special Teams which have been a problem from the start of the season. This Team needs Offensive line help. A pass Rush and a sense of urgency.
Ryan Fitzpatrick and his injured companions had player execution problems again this week; Kenbrel Thompkins was inactive in favor of Devin Smith, who again could not deliver. Does Todd Bowles have what it takes to win situational Fooball and are he and Chan Gailey on the same page?
Let's talk Dolphin's. Yes, they're 6 -4 but that does'nt mean this Jets Team will beat them this Sunday.
