    TBI DAD

    in Health

I am Dr. Steve Cagen - TBI DAD.
In May of 2007, my the 17 year old duaghter suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in an auto accident and life has never been the same.
We have had to learn many things along the way to Full Recovery (our personal mantra) and we would like to share them with you.
We are TBI advocates, not because that was our career, it is because we were forced to be.
On this program and our website, we offer advice to other parents and care givers of children with TBI's on every subject that will help them get life back on track, deal with doctors and hospitals, new therapys, support grounds and how to maintain sanity.
The "system" has put up roadblocks every chance they have in order to stop our progress or deny my daughter the benefits she is due and in desparate need of. This has forced us to become true advocates.
    Let us show you:
How to become an advocate from day one - this is extremely important. How to deal with doctors inside and outside of the hospital setting. How to keep your loved one safe inside of the hospital - this may be harder than you think. How to find benefits and deal with government workers. How to file for SSI How to choose an attorney. How to become an expert record keeper - very important. How to document for success How to keep yourself sane. How to choose therapies which work. and much, much more. Our members are families just like yours who have experienced the horror of a child with a TBI.
We are not lawyers looking for your business, we are parents and our kids are injured.
We have beat the system and we want to show you how we did it.
Please join us and visit our website www.tbidad.com

    WTF? - w/Kevin A. Phillips - Illusions of a TBI

    in Self Help

For an Illusionist to fool the audience, their deceit must go unseen and to this end they craft an illusion to avert attention from reality. While the audience is entranced, the deceptive act is committed, and for the fool, reality then becomes inexplicably built upon on a lie. That is, until the fool wakes up and recognizes the truth in the fact that he has been duped. (Like "Santa Claus")

However, for some maintaining the suspension of disbelief in the illusion, is often more comforting than acknowledging being duped. Join the show tonight to discover the six top illusions most experience with not only  a TBI but with LIFE as well and how you can start seeing things as they truly are: Glorious, Radiant and SPECTACULAR!

    WTF? - w/Kevin A. Phillips - Interview with a TBI TEEN!

    in Self Help

Most Parents would prefer no harm come to their children and most will do what they can to curtail it. In the event some harm does come, we're often the first to respond with corrective actions. But what happens when we get a TBI? What happens to the protective instinct with a child with a Brain Injury who has a 'misfire'? LIFE for most teens can be overwhelming as it is, between the public schools sytem, social cliques, stero-types and the unlimited amount of information that gets tossed out there each day.

Join us tonight as we interview a very special and unique TBI THRIVER Teen and what she has learned about creating a more FUNcational LIFE, in spite of her Brain Injury. Call in and listen LIVE @424.243.9540 and share your success or questions. You never know who will be listening and how your question or story can help inspire others.

    WTF? - w/Kevin A. Phillips - Getting Sucker Punched w/a TBI

    in Self Help

Everyone has an Angel. A Guardian who watches over us. We can't know what form they'll take. One day, old man. Next day, little girl. But don't let appearances fool you, they can be as fierce as any dragon. Yet they're not here to fight our battles, but to whisper from our heart. Reminding that it's us. Its everyone of us who holds power over the world we create.  LIFE with a Brain Injury is an opportunity to create the LIFE of our dreams not perpetuate the limitations of our ignorance.

Join tonights conversation with Kevin and the Marvelous Maggie as they share their story of overcoming the hurdles most seemed to get sucker punched with after a TBI. Call in and listen LIVE and/or share your Triumphs @424.243.9540 7pm PST!

"Another Fork in the Road" Joshua Puckett - Artist, Musician, & TBI Survivor

    in Education

Joshua Puckett was just minding his business in his own front yard when he was attacked by a "random drunk person" causing his brain injury. Now he says he has a "memory of a fish." Memory problems combined with balance issues, anger, and confusion have become the "new norm" in his new life. But, Joshua is overcoming his deficits by directing his attentions to his art and his music. Both are opening new doors in this talented young man's life.

Every TBI survivor and caregiver has encountered a fork in the road that has diverted his or her life-plan. A car accident, a fall from the roof, doing one more chin-up, an IED blast, or a door literally slamming one in the face are just some causes of traumatic brain injury. College, walking down the aisle in the perfect dress, or the coveted job quickly slips from reality as dreams turn to struggle. These unexpected life-happenings that divert one from his or her chosen path in life can be devastating.

But as Yogi Berra once said, “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” Life is all about choices!

TBI: Chip on the Shoulder or Start of a Journey? Dream Catchers with Les Paul

    in Motivation

Since I work and interact with a lot people with TBI survivors I have met many kinds of people who feel life has been so hard and rugged on them that they just want to give up, yet on the other hand I have met others that are struggling to take their next breath and can still smile and that’s because every single TBI is different.

    A chip on your Shoulder

    Stop the discrimination

    Empowerment, Justice, inclusion

    Working together

    Loving our differences

    Accepting ourselves

    Pain and panic

    Love and peace

    Open floor-open mic

    Victory

I am hoping that even if you have a chip on your shoulder that tonight we will all come together on the Brain Injury Radio Network, TBISN, the Brain Injury Association of America and start a dialog to consider our options to help us all come together as the United voce for making the biggest difference in history to create a real power house team of survivors and teams of people willing to show up and be counted and forever change the history of Brain Injury peer support and advocacy forever 2015 truly will be a great year of change if we all come together!!!!
