Last week I read a very disturbing article in one of the local newspapers in Tangipahoa Parish. A child had his arm broken at Sumner Middle School by a bully. Unfortunately, some kids will tease their school mates, siblings and neighborhood friends sometimes during their childhood. When any child is physically or verbally being abused, the problem need to be addressed. We all should take bullying serious and not disregard the signs. Bullying can have a lifelong affect on anyone who has been bullied. Bullies can be found in both genders, all races, classes and social status.
Dr. Okpara Nosakhere former educator and author of Big, Bad, Bullies know the importance of saying- no to bullies. Please join host Antoinette Harrell and co-host Dr. Okpara Nosakhere for a discussion on bulling.
In 1910, black farmers owned 15 million acres of farmland; in 1982, black farmers owned 3.1 millions acres of farmland. Today there are fewer than 18,000 black farmers, representing less than 1% of all farms in America. In St. Helena & Tangipahoa Parishes, Louisiana, there are less than twenty farmers left. From raising livestock to farming vegetables throughout both parishes.
Many of the farmers are now in between the ages of seventy to ninety years of age and there is no one in their family, who are following in their footsteps. I met two young men between the ages of fifteen and seventeen years old growing their own vegetable gardens in Fluker, LA. I was delighted to see this.
Please join host Antoinette Harrell and co-host Dr. Okpara Nosakhere for this upcoming discussion.
Often times African American people sell the land without knowledge of mineral and oil rights. How often do we talk about the mineral and oil rights in our families? When was the last time you visit the courthouse to check on the mineral and rights oil, and gas lease? Have you consult with an attorney? Are you discussing these important matters at your family reunion?
Minerals rights and oil and gas leases differ from surface rights. A landowner may own the surface land but not the mineral rights of that land. The owner of the land should check on whether he/she has ownership of mineral rights or title of the land.
Joining the host is genealogists and family historians Tonia Askins and Melvin Collins. Their family history runs deep in Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes on the family branches of the Dudley,Williams, Cade Family.

My roots run deep in Tangipahoa & St. Helena Parish. Meeting the cowboys, farmers, women who are still canning fresh fruit and vegetables. This where genealogy comes alive. Out of sight of mind is what can happen if we don't commemorate the legacies of our ancestors who were pioneers. Our ancestors were pioneers who paved the way as pathfinder from the shadows of former slaves, They became educators, inventors, soldiers, farmers, doctors and entrepreneurs. Many of our ancestors help build and form St.Helena & Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. When I think of Jasper Harrell, Sr, Alexander Richardson, Mrs. Forchia Wilson, Mr. O.W. Dillion, Dr. Thomas, Tucker, Bishop Willie K. Gordon, Sr, Dr. Willard Vernon, I think of the many unsung heroes of these two parishes. Please join host and genealogist Antoinette Harrell as she commemorate these unsung heroes and sheroes.
