With his trademark long beard, tie-dyed shirt, and signature victory cry, Rupert is considered by fans to be one of the show's most popular castaways. Rupert is one of the only two contestants to compete 4 times on Survivor. He is also the only contestant to win $1,000,000 via public vote.
In 2004, after working in the Mental Health Field for over 20 years, Rupert founded Rupert’s Kids, a non-profit organization that provides mentoring, vocational training and job placement to young ex-offenders. When he won the million dollar prize for Survivor fan favorite that same year, he donated $177,000 to his community, plus $100,000 to fund Rupert’s Kids. Michael is the Producer, Director and Emcee for the Five Minute Follies, Philadelphia's only ongoing family friendly vintage variety show.
His interactive one-man show "Ask a Sex Abuse Survivor" will be staged on Sunday, June 29th at 5pm and 7pm at the Adrienne Theater in Philadelphia, as part of the SoLow Festival.
In the show he will be recounting my experiences of childhood sexual abuse, as well as his struggles with recovery and finding peace.
"Ask a Sex Abuse Survivor" will also include breaks where the audience can comment, ask questions, and share their stories. The hope is to open up a frank and productive discussion on the issues surrounding childhood sexual abuse, including ways to help prevent it.
Healing is an ongoing process for Michael. After many unhealthy relationships, he has been fortunate enough to find a significant other who is completely supportive and understanding about all my daily challenges. His wife Kristie has helped to give him the strength to dig through all these awful memories and try and turn them into something that can make a positive impact.
Putting the show together has been a harrowing experience. Digging down to the root of all these experiences, and letting the emotion connected to that root come out, is both terrifying and illuminating. Just by putting together this show, Michael is healing.
Together we are stronger and together we heal. We are not alone.

"Ask A Sex Abuse Survivor"
Bo Budinsky’s life has been challenging at best. He has dealt with addiction, shattered relationships and abandoned; he’s been homeless, shot at–the list goes on. He was a broken man filled with disgust and self loathing. He had been ashamed of something that was running his entire life. He is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and it has profoundly affected his life.
In September, 2010 he found out that Oprah was going to do a show on male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and wanted 200 men to be a part of the show. He was one of those selected. He has a strong presence on his Facebook page Save One Survivor. He is a tireless advocate for survivors.

On April 17, 2010, I interviewed Julianne, a survivor and advocate. Please join us for this repeat show. (original show -- http://www.blogtalkradio.com/oralhistory/2010/04/17/beyond-words-live--meet-julianne)
Julianne discusses her own personal experiences with domestic violence, as well as her involvement in the development of domestic violence programs in rural America, as well as some dilemmas and issues surrounding reaching those in the rural america about resources available to them too. Domestic violence in rural America is a perplexing issue because the batterer will often go to great lengths to alienate and isolate a victim -- oftentimes, this includes moving them out to the most remote area that they can where the victim has little access to communication with the wide world, as well as their friends and family members. How can we possibly reach these folks? Be sure to tune in and perhaps we'll hear some creative ideas that you, as a listener, can proactively do as well.
BEYOND WORDS LIVE is designed as a platform for survivors to tell their stories in their own words. Join us for further discussions on these matters at: http://facebook.com/DomesticViolenceVoices, http://facebook.com/KrastinSocialJustice and http://beyondwordslifecoach.blogspot.com/.

We as survivors or those preparing for some catamclysmic even can learn many skills. We can dehydrate, stock water, supplies. Learn about radiation, going to highground. Every skill imaginable can be learned. However, do we ever stop to prepare to survive, not just to keep the mind going, but the spirit as well.
This week on Apocalypse Nana, we examine what it takes to prepare to stay human. To save the good and not turn bad. We look at relationships in a post apocalypse world, morality. Will people stay good or will they turn? Can we do anything to ensure we remain civilized.
