Saturday, August 9 -- When we hear the words Southern Christian Leadership, do we think about an 1960's struggle for civil rights or a 21st Century approach to human rights? Depending on your perspective, any effort to promote equitable participation starts with making equality work where we live, learn, work and worship. Last week, we looked in on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a possible space for developing economic security programs. This week, it’s back to Birmingham where the issue of “Toxic People, Families and Environments” impact outcome of a timeless question, “Where do we go from here?”
According to the President's My Brother's Keeper Task Force, roughly two-thirds of Black and one-third of Hispanic children live with only one parent. Moreover, research suggests that a father's absence increases the risk of his Black child dropping out of school by 75 percent. And even in the 21st Century information age, too many Americans still live in poverty. If you have read the report to The President of the United States, we’d like to hear your thoughts on My Brother’s Keeper. We're looking at the symbols, practices and promises that strengthen communities and secure our nation. Join us as we head BACK TO BIRMINGHAM for the 56th Annual Convention of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. www.YouthUSA.net.

Special Guest: Usama Dakdok
Usama Dakdok was born in Egypt and grew up in a Christian home. While in government schools in Egypt, he learned about Islam just as every other student does in a Muslim country. Usama also studied for a university degree in Egypt which included the study of Sharia, Islamic Law. He came to America in 1992. With all of his knowledge about Islam, he felt he could reach out to Muslim people in America with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus he began The Straight Way of Grace Ministry.

I grew up in Winchester, MA and currently live in a small town in West Tennessee. I've always been drawn to study history and like many writers, began writing poetry and short stories while still quite young. The defining event in my life was becoming a Christian at age twenty three. The Wood's End Series juxtaposes world events with end-times Bible Prophecy in the context of how these dynamics impact the lives of individuals.
Alexandra wrote the Book Discerning Spirits as a simple overview of how one may facilitate Christian ministries of Deliverance, Exorcism, and Intercession; and the three classes of demonic possession. The last chapter looks at four movies and the narcissistic characters in those films as we seek to identify a protocol of evil for purposes of deciding what ministry response is needed. She's been influenced in her nonfiction writing on these topics of Exorcism and Deliverance by foremost, The Bible. Secondly by the work of Erich Fromm, M. Scott Peck, Ken and Sylvia Thornberg, Francis MacNutt, Malachi Martin, and Joseph Lumpkin.
Clair is currently working on a screenplay and the third book in the Wood's End Series: The World in the Wood.
