The concept of the “Asafo”, originating from the people of Ghana, means warrior people. The terms “Asa” meaning war and “fo” meaning people. Therefore when combined the terms “Asa” and “fo” mean warrior scholars. The Asafo used their intellect and scholarship to inform and protect their community from outsiders who came to invade their land. Therefore, ANU Asafo welcomes you to learn about scholarship and strategies for your community.

Dubbed “The Hip Hop Principal” by parents and students,he has taken the powerful and magnetic force known as Hip Hop and channeled it into a tool that gets young urban students excited about education while at the same time building their self-esteem and confidence. This Project also benefitted the students by creating a project-based model for teaching valuableskills and lessons that extended from the classroom into practical application. The result of this was not only a student-created music video that screened at the Tribeca Film Festival, also students learned to use their passion to focus on education, self-respect, and self-determination, They were honored by Southeast Queens, New York City, and nationally for their hard work and accomplishment. CHARLES WRIGHT | Biography
Charles Wright has spent most of his 17 year career as a strategist in the advertising industry. He was a founder and President of Translation, one of the country's preeminent advertising agencies specializing in young adult and teen advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 companies. His clients have included Samsung, Sprite, Estée Lauder, State Farm, Conde Nast and McDonalds. An expert in teen and young and young adult consumers, Charles helped Coca Cola field a massive study analyzing the attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of teens. He is also a member if the Multicultural Marketing Association and the American Association of Hispanic Advertisers. A crowned Lukumi priest of Shango, Charles spends much of his time studying African traditional Religions and is an avid amateur photographer.
