Is it time for Mandatory Minimum Sentencing reform? Who is Marissa Alexander? Children of Incarceration Parents
Sam Thurman, Cliff Stewart, and Ethel Lopez of the Colorado exoneration firm A Just Cause, discuss what happens when the wheels of justice trample unbridled over the rights of innocent Americans.
Although the American system of justice is the most-respected worldwide, it is still a system designed, and operated, by humans, which means it's not perfect. Sam, Cliff and Ethel will highlight ongoing struggles against "the system" to free wrongfully imprisoned people, and what happens when justice miscarries against an actually innocent person.
Our Special Guests tonight are Mark Osler, Professor of Law/Former Prosecutor and Wrongly Convicted, Sabrina Butler, who spent five years in prison with two of those years on death row for a crime, she didn't commit.
A Just Cause is currently campaigning for "FreeTheIRP6," who's been wrongly imprisoned in Florence, CO for a crime they didn't commitrong. For full story: www.freetheirp6.org.

Ideas of honour, dignity, common good have been part of human structures from the stone age. Does the antedeluvian in you think it reasonable that mankind came to exist with awareness of self or might we think that consciousness has been an anatomical adaptation?
We can't say definitively of course when 'freemasonry' came into existence. We know ideas of the Rennaisance and Age of Enlightenment were out there before the reform in Britain and Europe. It tells us the ideas of freemasonry existed with or without a Grand Lodge, within a philosophical context. An antient might marvel at the extrivia that has accumulated along the way; the constitutions, warrants, definedauthority, standards and even a dress code that needed to be said. As sparse as they often are, a contempoary Lodge room would seem cluttered to a man who attended a make-do tavern room but not one who met in a gentlemens residence. Standards and expectations were inevitable and became the source of many of today's practices.
This should tell us that freemasonry is a process of aspiring for insight. There is an expectation we apply philosophy and science to benefit mankind. This story line makes 'today' a snapshot in a time line; one without beginning or end- that streaks through life accumulating knowledge to assimilate and pass forward to the apprentice. Even now, mentors are amongst us connecting, cajoling and critiqueing.
When a foundation shifts, it does not mean the entire structure should be scrapped. It sets our artificers to fix the problem. Until that moment, they lie in wait as the ultimate insurance against failure. How to rebalance the Gentle Craft against the consequence of bureacracy is a question worthy of our best minds. Sit with me while we talk this over.

Congress is broken! America has turned into a major clusterfuck basically as Republicans say no to everything. Rather than working with Democrats and the President, they block and raise hell about none consequential matters in their slimey smoke and mirrors distraction tactics. Basically the GOP are demogoges who care nothing for America's wellbeing. There was a viable Middle Class but now it can be categorised as being Upper Poor because of policies that only benefit the top 1% in America.
Corporations get huge tax breaks, the outsourcing of good Middle Class jobs to "emerging markets", aka Third World countries with no minimum wage guidelines, (Hence, increasing Corporate profits), a Republican House Majority who refuses to have a vote to raise the Minimum Wage, assault on Women's (Reproductive) Rights, ignore Immigration Reform completely, cutting Federal funding across the board hurting infrastructure, vital government depeartments important to the well-being of American progress in the 21st Century.
The Party of Lincoln and Ike continue their malicious assault on America. This is a do or die midterm election in 2014 friends. Will Democrats step up and represent We the People or are they just the lesser of two evils? How can America move on from dysfunction junction and stop the self destruction? In this globalized world we need the government to look out for Middle America & the average worker. Tell us what you think?

FACTS: Approximately 12%-13% of the American population is African-American, but they make up 40% of the almost 2.1 million male inmates in jail or prison (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009). Census data for 2000 of the number and race of all individuals incarcerated in the United States revealed a wide racial disproportion of the incarcerated population in each state: the proportion of blacks in prison populations exceeded the proportion among state residents in twenty states; the percent of blacks incarcerated was five times greater than the resident population.
In an August 2013, Sentencing Project report on Racial Disparities in the United States Criminal Justice System, submitted to the United Nations, "one of every three black American males born today can expect to go to prison in his lifetime".

This is an excerpt from a letter at Prisons' Wives Girlfriends and Partners
Dear Incarcerated (in relationships),
I spend a lot of time counseling women who have committed their lives to standing by you. These women are the very embodiment of unconditional love. I often see many women hurt, mistreated and devastated by partners whose idea of love differs from theirs. You don’t have a choice to do this time, but we do.
Here are a few things you should know:
You should know that we really love you. We love you with two years. We love you with life sentences. Some of us even love you with death. You should know that if a woman is willing to love you at all during a prison sentence, she is someone worth respecting and hanging on to.
You should know it’s not game to ‘play the field’ behind bars. In fact, it’s lame and tacky. Take a look around. You ain’t ballin’. If you are using someone for comfort and commissary under the guise of love and romance, you should know it’s not kind. It takes more strength of character to tell the truth about your intentions. You may be surprised to learn that some are still willing to support you.
You should know life goes on. To demand that she not go out and enjoy the world she is a part of is selfish. There are two lives dealing with this situation. Don’t make her a pseudo prisoner by sentencing her to house arrest. You should know it doesn’t have to be hard time for both for you.
