NSA Spying Didn't Save the NY Cops

    in Politics

Remember, the NSA said they were spying on us but that was to keep us safe? Were those two dead NY cops kept safe by NSA spying?

Remember that the killer of the NY cops posted what he was planning to do hours before he did it? Yet somehow the NSA collected that data but never warned the New York City Police Department. Why?

  • Rebelution Radio looks at police, mental illness, poor methods + poorer results

    in Comedy

There is no disputing statistics. They are gathered from events, not "scenarios". They are made up of real people, real lives, real deaths. The steady decline of mental health facilities, mental health workers and mental health budgets has left far too many outside the help they need. One out of three people will experience some sort of mental health issue in their lives. Do you think that adequate services should be available for these episodes? Or do you agree with the "modern" methods of eliminating services and pretending the problem doesn't exist? Media, and by reflection the general public, tend to marginalize people who don't fit the "norm", whatever the hell that is. What if it is your loved one, your friend, yourself that needs the help required to regain your direction and focus?

Kelly Thomas. Martin Hall. Ashley Smith. Jeffrey Towe. Teresa Sheehan. Barbara Stewart. James Popkowski. Bartolo Ford. Thousands more like them. Who are these people? They are people who needed help but none was available. They were left to deal with police. We know how police deal with "non-compliance". Most of the time, it is "Obey or Die". But thankfully, not all.

If law enforcement is forced to become front-line mental health workers, why are they not being instructed how to deal with these circumstances? CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) is slowly becoming the standard. Budget restraints are the excuse being used to delay and deny it. What has to change to help save lives and prevent social chaos from protests?

Guest host @canadianglen is joined by @Firec0re to examine this issue. The personal experiences of @Firec0re motivate her to be involved in this societal void to help correct it. Join us, listen, chat, call in. The final Saturday episode of Rebelution Radio for 2014 looks to take the warmth of the holiday season and talk about a big problem, in a positive way.

    Make This Year Different...

    in Spirituality

...By Making It All The Same.

As we welcome in the New Year and pause to reflect on where we have been and where we are going, it is a great time to go within and to look to the Course and it's text for input. The last paragraph from Chapter 15 is perfect, and here it is:

So will the year begin in joy and freedom. There is much to do, and we have been long delayed. Accept the holy instant as this year is born, and take your place, so long left unfulfilled, in the Great Awakening. Make this year different by making it all the same. And let all your relationships be made holy for you. This is our will. Amen.

The italicized prayer above that paragraph is lovely....

    Say to your brother:

I give you to the Holy Spirit as part of myself. I know that you will be released, unless I want to use you to imprison myself. In the name of my freedom I choose your release, because I recognize that we will be released together.

So together, let us be released.

    And so it is. :-)

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones Dies at the Age of 62

Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones died last Friday at the age of 62 in Kingston Jamaica. Her soul influenced reggae ballads propelled her to popularity in the seventies along with Judy Mowatt and Pam Hall.

Jones was born Barbara Nation in Kingston but grew up in Manchester, a rural parish located in central Jamaica. She began her musical career cutting a cover of American country singer Sue Thompson’s Sad Movies with the Soul Syndicate Band for Randy’s Records.

Most of her popular songs included, Evie Sands’ Angel in The Morning and Walk through This World with Me, originally done by Englebert Humperdinck and Dream Lover.

Jones toured with Jimmy Cliff as a backup singer, before giving up secular music in the early 1980s. She became a Christian and eventually recorded four gospel albums.

In May, Jones returned to her reggae roots by doing two shows in Brazil along with bassist/singer Lloyd Parks. They did shows in the cities of Teresina and Belem. Jones was shocked she had fans in Brazil, a vibrant market for so-called vintage reggae.

“I didn’t know my songs were so popular there. People always told me, I should go to Brazil as they love me there,” she told the Jamaica Observer during an interview after her return.

Barbara Jones is survived by her husband, three children and three grandchildren. The thanksgiving service for her life is scheduled for the Gregory Park Baptist Church on January 10. R.I.P Jamaican Diva Barbara Jones.http://jamaicandivas.com/tag/barbara-jones/

  • The Real Bible Study With Host Minister Akaiha Hon Min Louis Farrahkan

    in The Bible

Today we will be blessed by God and the Honorable Min. Louis Farrakhan on the Willie Lynch letter.

The Nation of Islam under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is the catalyst for the growth and development of Islam in America. Founded in 1930 by Master Fard Muhammad and led to prominence from 1934 to 1975 by the Honorable Eiljah Munammad, the Nation of Islam continues to positively impact the quality of life in America.

Minister Louis Farrakhan, born on May 11, 1933 in Bronx, N.Y., was reared in a highly disciplined and spiritual household in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Raised by his mother, a native of St. Kitts, Louis and his brother Alvan learned early the value of work, responsibility and intellectual development. Having a strong sensitivity to the plight of Black people, his mother engaged her sons in conversations about the struggle for freedom, justice and equality. She also exposed them to progressive material such as the Crisis magazine, published by the NAACP.

Popularly known as “The Charmer,” he achieved fame in Boston as a vocalist, calypso singer, dancer and violinist. In February 1955, while visiting Chicago for a musical engagement, he was invited to attend the Nation of Islam’s Saviours’ Day convention.
