My educational background is in Economics and Finance, with a degree from SMU. I’ve supported the small-business sector throughout my career, first in helping to increase efficiency and reduce cost in the processing of payments, and now in the funding of their business growth. I’ve been managing the Sales team at Nextwave Funding for the past three years.
After 2008, traditional banks tightened lending criteria, specifically in small businesses worldwide. We found that there was a big opportunity to support what we saw as an underserved market. If we could fund this market faster and more affordably than others, we would have a strong position, even if banks do ultimately return to the small business sector.

The human brain is an amazing tool. Yet, many of its built-in thought patterns and ways of working do not serve business leaders well. The brain can process large amounts of information. It has a real talent for forming patterns and connections. And it loves to answer questions and solve problems. But it also has a tendency to see what it expects to see, overlook data that contradicts its prevailing view of the world, and have greater confidence in its decision-making abilities than it should. In order to become more effective leaders, we need a much deeper understanding of how our brain works and how it often gets in the way of winning.
Using Your Brain to Win is a fast, fun read that will change the way you think about what you think. And each chapter includes numerous “Playing with Your Brain” exercises to embed these important learning points into your daily routine.

SHOW NOTES: This specific episode is, "My Life Is More Awesome Than I Ever Dreamed! I Am Grateful But Also Feel Guilty. Help!"
Wow. We have so much in our lives that has surpassed our dreams and goals! Our work (paid and/or volunteer), our community of caring (family and friends), our daily joy. We discuss in this show that some people will have a moment of clarity when they look around and realize how far they have surpassed their goals. (The “I really did it” moment!) Other people have a very specific predefined goal and events related thereto (first day of public trading of their firm, standing on the stand at the Olympics receiving a medal, at their wedding, their child’s first day of school, hitting one million dollars in sales, etc.).
I share in the show that I never had a specific singular predefined goal. In the past few years I have looked around and realized, I am living the dream! My work is more exciting, challenging, rewarding and fulfilling than I ever imagined. My community of caring is filled with authentic people that I respect and trust. My physical surroundings (homes, etc.) are beautiful. I have the resources to do what I feel like doing when I feel like doing it. I rarely have an unpleasant person in my life that I ‘have to put up with’ and I am containing to add more layers of resources to my financial independence.
I wake up 99% of the time (except for when I am sick or something horrendous happens in life) really excited about the upcoming day. I dance around in the morning when I rise in celebration of the new day! I can’t wait to see what happens!
How did this happen?
1) I have had numerous specific goals that I have relentlessly pursued.
2) I n

My guest for 09/17/14 is Robert Crane.
Robert Crane has been the Marin county manager for the West Coast Songwriters, a Non Profit Organization, for the past 3 years. He hosts a monthly songwriting contest for the West Coast Songwriters at FENIX Supper Club.
Robert says he only wrote 2 songs from age 8 through 50. But at age 50 a light went on that opened his songwriting flood gate. He says his wife Mary gets the credit for inspiring him to write, which is another story…
Robert and his wife Mary produced an album for the West Coast Songwriters organization called “Local Gold” in 2011. The album features the best song of the month winners tracks for the San Rafael event that year.
Robert is currently working on his own first album. Two of Robert's songs have been awarded “best song of the month” at West Coast Songwriters competitions and were also featured on the West Coast Songwriters Local Gold album.
Robert and his wife Mary are both voting members of the Recording Academy. Robert's song “Powerless” will be in the movie “The Junction” a Ron Howard – Willie Nelson Production with music by Marcus Barone of Film Music Group.
We'll be talking about songwriting, the West Coast Songwriters events, and the music Robert hears calling him. We'll also be talking about the process of songwriting and how you can work in creative collaboration with other songwriters.
You can find out more about the West Coast Songwriters by visiting their website at: www.westcoastsongwriters.org
