Venezuela's collapse: Does it give warning to a tottering America?

    in Politics Conservative

A friend send us a link this week to a report out of Venezuela that newborns are dying in hospital from exposure to bacteria spread by an infestation of opposums at the facility. The report also said restroom service was spotty as well.

Six years ago, there was many a Lefty who touted Venezuela's "constitutional right" to health care as a model for the U.S. to follow. Even just a couple years back, as consumer goods began to be in short supply, and the Venezuelan economy was faultering, many an American or European Lefty dismissed such reports as media hype, just biased bashing of a popular socialist regime.

The facade of prosperity is now long gone. Venezuela's hit the wall. It's in full collapse, and despite a government crackdown on news reporting, those stories that do get out paint an ever more dire picture.

So, is this just the stuff of another South American country falling on hard times, or do Venezuela's hard times hold clues of what may be taking shape in our own USA?

If you're still among those who insist such a downfall can't happen here, join us Friday at one o'clock Eastern as we connect some of this week's dots that, when connected, suggest we really are living in unparalleled perilous times.

Apologies for the lateness in posting this week's show outlook. Doug's been under a jury duty summons all week, and we weren't sure he'd be clear by show time. The summons has been lifted, we're clear for Friday's show.

  • Bathroom Wars

    in Culture

All over the United States, transgenders are fighting for the right to use the restroom of the sex that they identify with.  The issue at hand is not a matter of sexuality, but one of civil liberties.  Should transgenders be allow to choose which restroom to use? The White House solved this issue by creating gender neutral restrooms.  If this is the best solution, should businesses and schools be forced to institute the same policy, or is this policy another form of discrimination? Join in on the conversation!

The controversy surrounding who can use a restroom in America has sparked an international discussion.  We want a peice of that so this week we're talking about who gets to use the potty and who doesn't.  The American people seem to be more than a little squeamish when it comes to bodily excretions and secretions in general and pee and poop in particular.  It seems like so much silliness to most inhabitants of planet Earth who are have a much more practical attitude about bathroom sensibilities.  Join us for a discussion on this tittilating topic.  We're on-air tonight, Thursday 7/30/2015, 9:30PM PDT Don't miss it!

The Tran-Generation of Society: Yes America, It is Time to Worry

    in Politics

Who would choose such a life of criticism and scrutiny?

Who are we to judge others?

These are two, of several questions, people often pose when I bring up my opposition to the transgender movement's push towards influencing our culture and society.

While I do not question the struggles a person faces daily with his or her sexual identity, I do argue against a persons personal decision to be transgender, impeding on the privacy and rights of other Americans.

Taking on all opponents, encouraging all supporters, and sharing several stories and situations, tonight's show is going to be defnitely a "Hot Button" topic for the ages

Tonight we will range from issues including Bruce Jenner, to transgender being allowed to use the restroom of their opposite sex

Care Break: If There's So Many of Us, Why Is Caregiving So Lonely?

    in Caregiving

Pew Research Center released a study in 2013 that says about 39% of U. S. adults–up from 30% in 2010–care for an adult or child with significant health issues.

In other words, two in every five individuals are family caregivers.

I’ve been thinking about this number because I can’t quite get it to add up.

Here’s why. If 39% of U.S. adults are family caregivers, why is caregiving still such a lonely and isolating experience? Why, every year in our annual family caregiver survey, do you talk about the loneliness of the experience? Why haven’t more programs and services been added in your community to help you? Why do you still worry about telling your boss about your caregiving responsibilities? Why doesn’t the doctor’s office share a list of caregiving resources to help you? Why doesn’t a home health agency refer you to a website, like ours, so you can connect with others in a similar situation? Why can’t you find a family restroom to assist your caree?

Why is caregiving still an experience that feels like it’s just you rather than one that feels like it’s you plus (and within) a community that supports?

Bruce and I will share our thoughts about why we think caregiving is still such a lonely experience.

    About Bruce, our show's co-host:
Bruce lives to encourage and inspire as many people as possible, especially caregivers and those living with a chronic condition. He is the author of Resilient Life and Graceful Transitions. He has served as a non-profit, church, and business leader. You can purchase Graceful Transitions at caregiving.com and read more from Bruce at brucemcintyre.com.
