Monday, February 23rd, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson allowed a new law to block future anti-discrimination laws (to go into effect 90 days after the legislative session ends later this summer). While the premise of the new law known as SB 202 appears reasonable, in actuality this law allows legal discrimination for all non-protected classes.
In this episode, we hear from three Arkansas residents. Meet once again Scott Wyant, Founder of Straight Talk Arkansas, a website dedicated to Living liberally in the Mid-South.
We'll also hear from Cathey Shoshone and Christina Harrison. Cathey is the Co-Chair and Christina is the Founder of Arkansans For Equality.
Christina Harrison was born and raised in Arkansas. She founded Arkansans for Equality in 2011. As an ally, she had become frustrated with the bigotry she came across towards our fellow Arkansans in the LGBTQ community and wanted to do something to help. She began a ballot initiative to repeal Amendment 83 soon after. Christina is a combat veteran in the Army National Guard, and has just recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan.
Cathey Shoshone, also an ally, was born in Arkansas but has lived in several states around the South. She lives in Arkansas currently, She "liked" the Arkansan for Equality facebook page and volunteered to collect signatures for the ballot initiative. The ballot initiative became obsolete when Cheryl Maples and Jack Wagoner won their case in Judge Piazza's courtroom legalizing same-sex marriage. A federal case has also overthrown Amendment 83 to the Arkansas State Constitution. This decision has been stayed pending an appeal hearing.
Today's guest is former police officer from South Carolina, Raeford Davis. Mr. Davis contacted me to ask if I would have him on to talk about LEAP(Law Enforcement Against Prohbition)
His bio(edited for length) from the LEAP site.
"I was misguided for participating in the war on drugs and my actions as a cop made things worse."
Raeford Davis served the City of North Charleston police department for six years, including four years as a patrol officer and two as a special victims unit detective. At the time, North Charleston was ranked the 8th most dangerous city in America. Before becoming a police officer, he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He graduated from Charleston Southern University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.
His perspective changed after patrolling a drug-plagued neighborhood nicknamed “4-Way.” He explains, “Children as young as 10 were recruited by older gang members to openly sell drugs, rob customers, and intimidate local residents. The kids were specifically recruited to sell drugs because they received less punishment if caught. As soon as I locked up one of these dealers, another younger one would take his place.” He realized that as long as gangs could make immense profits selling drugs, they would continue recruiting kids.
Raeford believes that we should legally regulate drugs to stop the violence and victimization of communities.Today, Raeford lives in Charleston. He retired in 2007, after being injured in the line of duty.
Doing my best to help the Lord set the brushfires of freedom in the hearts of men and to restore America, God willing, to the beacon of freedom she was meant to be.

Politicians and CEOs are taking America back to 19th century and non-voters are to blame. Americans have to put the puzzles pieces together. Cost of living, wages and voting is political and is tied directly to our lives whether we vote or not. Poverty continues in America thanks to GOP blocking bills. If we are to lower unemployment, raise wages, stop the endless votes to repeal ACA, and end American invovled wars we must figure out politicians can pass pass bills to make these things happen. Politicians are passing bills to favor CEOs. CEOs interest is no taxation for corporations; no litigation being brought by poor people against corporations; getting rid of government regulations. CEOs want to make more profit without investing in workingclass / consumers. If America continue to not vote, ALEC, SCOTUS and Politicians gets what they want. Two classes of Americans. Wealthy who lives long lives and poor who die young untimely deaths.
On tonight's show:
With the General Assembly considering a repeal of the "Rain Tax", Anne Arundel leaders propose a repeal in their own county but a Republican may be the one to keep this from happening. We'll discuss.

The Affordable Care Act 2010 (ObamaCare) put consumers in charge of their health care. Under the law, a new “Patient’s Bill of Rights” gives the American people the stability and flexibility they need to make informed choices about their health.
Some of the key components of this Healthcare Act:
Ends Pre-Existing Condition Exclusions for Children under age 19 due to a pre-existing condition.
Keeps Young Adults under age 26, covered
Ends Lifetime Limits on Coverage
Helps You Get the Most from Your Premium Dollars: Your premium dollars must be spent primarily on health care – not administrative costs.
Covers Preventive Care at No Cost to You
Protects Your Choice of Doctors: Choose the primary care doctor you want from your plan’s network.
Removes Insurance Company Barriers to Emergency Services: You can seek emergency care at a hospital outside of your health plan’s network.
Sounds pretty good, right? So, why were Republican members of Congress fighting so hard to repeal this law?

From the apocryphal books of the Bible, Adam gives patriarchal instructions to his son, Seth (who took the place of Abel)--a portion of which were:
But now, O Seth, my son, place thyself at the head of thy people; tend them and watch over them in the fear of God; and lead them in the good way. Command them to fast unto God; and make them understand they ought not to hearken to Satan, lest he destroy them. Then, again, sever thy children and thy children's children from Cain's children; do not let them ever mix with those nor come near them either in their words or in their deeds. (Adam and Eve, 8:14-
Later "the Word of God" came to Seth and said to "But as to thy father Adam, keep thou the commandment he gave thee; and sever thy seed from that of Cain thy brother." Then it says that "After the death of Adam and of Eve, Seth severed his children, and his children's children from Cain's children." In one of Seth's teachings to his children he said: Make no fellowship with the children of Cain the murderer and the sinner, who killed his brother; for ye know, O my children, that we flee from him, and from all his sin with all our might because he killed his brother Abel. (Adam and Eve, 12:11) Further explanation stated that "among the children of Cain, there was much robbery, murder, and sin." Enos also gave the same law of segregation to his children by telling them to "make no fellowship with the children of Cain." Later Mahalaleel stood over his people "and watched them to see that they held no intercourse with the children of Cain." Upland is the town in California that conspired with federal authorities to have collective operator Aaron Sandusky arrested, prosecuted in a kangaroo court and incarcerated in federal prison for 10 years. Now the small Inland Empire town faces a special election to rescind their ban that has been maliciously enforced and replaced with an ordinance that allows for a licensed and regulated MMJ distribution system.
The show’s first guest is Upland initiative Campaign coordinator Craig Beresh revealing the sordid and scandal plagued recent history of Upland, the wildly successful signature gathering campaign that collected enough signatures to require a special election and the nefarious plots being hatched by the city to prevent the election from being held.
The icon of all marijuana icons, many consider Jack Herer to be the Marin Luther King of the marijuana movement. His books, speeches, activism and over-the-top advocacy have inspired thousands and educated millions. Jennie Herer, Jack’s second wife, possesses a large collection of his personal belongings and other memorabilia and is determined to open a hemp museum whose core exhibit would highlight Jack’s contributions to freeing the weed as well as the man behind the icon.
This podcast is being done live from Las Vegas where the collection is stored. I will be in Las Vegas this week uncrating, sorting, labeling, photographing and cataloguing this historic treasure trove. Jennie Herer will be on the show with me revealing the contents of this notable and extraordinary collection of a man whose name will forever be associated with ending marijuana prohibition and restoring the use of this ancient plant for the betterment of humanity.
