Former state Rep. Bill Otto (R-9th) is currently campaigning as an Indepedent in the "new" 76th district. Here are some of his quotes from an old 9th District debate as cited in the Emporia Gazette:
Otto said he also felt as though he was a consistent conservative, but said it was important to be a consistent conservative who supports funding promised programs initiated by the legislature.
“This state is a dead-beat, and being a conservative is not being a dead-beat,” said Otto.
Otto was quick to bring up school board redistricting.
“The first one that directly affects you guys, in small areas, we didn’t have school boards redistricting,” he said. “We had areas, actually in rural areas, where it was hard to get anybody to run.”
He said the first bill to mention that he had authored was to have one person, one vote for school boards.
Rep. Otto agreed with the importance of small schools, saying he was the leading expert on school finance.
“When we continue to drop the equalizations formula … it continues that pressure, to close small community school,” he said.
2nd hour: Bill Otto LIVE!

There was a time when the press, and specifically newspapers, were seen as watchdogs of the government. That is why the press was given such freedom from oversight by the founders. Few news agencies today see themselves that way. One that does is The Missouri Torch. Tonight we will talk with Duane Lester, editor of that forum about the duty of journalism and Missouri politics in general.
Too little is said and understood about the important job of the State Auditor. In a time when tax dollars are jealously guarded by you and me, the State Auditor is supposed to be our champion for guarding those dollars. We will chat with Sean O'Toole, Libertarian candidate for State Auditor. He will be facing off in November with the incumbent Auditor, Tom Schweich and Constitution Party candidate Rodney Farthing.
Have you written or talked to your State Rep about the Diehl or No Diehl? Please call in tonight and let us know what your rep had to say about this issue. If this is going to work we absolutely need your support and participation.

This World Footprints show will journey to the Grenadines and unlock the mysteries of the sea in a way few seldom see or experience.
Our first stop takes us to Bequia (pronounced Beck-way), the largest of the Grenadines. Fresh from a dive at Devils Table with her dive buddy Cathy Sachs of Dive Bequia, Tonya and Cathy will recount their dive and why Bequia offers an unusual diving experience. Cathy will also share how this island has changed her life.
Then we’ll visit Bequia’s Park Bay, home to the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary, where a native retired skin-diving fisherman affectionately known as “Brother King”, has spent more than a decade of his life to helping to conserve the endangered hawksbill turtle. Brother King and his helpers monitor the beaches and nests here to protect mother turtles from poachers. They also care for the baby hatchlings in the sanctuary during the turtles’ vulnerable years of life.
Many of the hatchlings are released into a protective area just south of Bequia called Tobago Cays—our next stop. Lesroy Noel is the Park Ranger for the Tobago Cays Marine Park which lies in the southern Grenadines. The area comprises of five isles bordered by a giant horseshoe reef and teems with wildlife and wild sea turtles.
