    Bill Browder: Profile in Courage

    in Relationships

A real-life political thriller about an American financier in the Wild East of Russia, the murder of his principled young tax attorney, and his dangerous mission to expose the Kremlin’s corruption.

Bill Browder’s journey started on the South Side of Chicago and moved through Stanford Business School to the dog-eat-dog world of hedge fund investing in the 1990s. It continued in Moscow, where Browder made his fortune heading the largest investment fund in Russia after the Soviet Union’s collapse. But when he exposed the corrupt oligarchs who were robbing the companies in which he was investing, Vladimir Putin turned on him and, in 2005, had him expelled from Russia.

In 2007, a group of law enforcement officers raided Browder’s offices in Moscow and stole $230 million of taxes that his fund’s companies had paid to the Russian government. Browder’s attorney Sergei Magnitsky investigated the incident and uncovered a sprawling criminal enterprise. A month after Sergei testified against the officials involved, he was arrested and thrown into pre-trial detention, where he was tortured for a year. On November 16, 2009, he was led to an isolation chamber, handcuffed to a bedrail, and beaten to death by eight guards in full riot gear.

Browder glimpsed the heart of darkness, and it transformed his life: he embarked on an unrelenting quest for justice in Sergei’s name, exposing the towering cover-up that leads right up to Putin. A financial caper, a crime thriller, and a political crusade, Red Notice is the story of one man taking on overpowering odds to change the world. - See more at: http://books.simonandschuster.com/Red-Notice/Bill-Browder/9781476755717#sthash.33OnZC9p.dpuf

In The Streets with Beverley Smith: The United Police State of America (Ep 21)

    in Politics

What is up with the police all around the nation? The NYPD changes Wikipedia entries regarding Eric Garner and Sean Bell. The SFPD is texting about "hanging ni**ers from trees". The Ferguson PD may or may not have the right man. The Chicago PD won't come clean about the secret detention center Homan Square. The DOJ says Ferguson police and court system have practiced widespread racial bias and policed for revenue and not for the public good. Nationwide, the police are legally spying on our cell phone calls, emails, tweets, and text messages. And the US Senate advances a new cybersecurity bill, widely criticized as being over-reaching.

Prosecutorial Discretion (DACA, DAPA, Admin Close)

    in Legal

The President has the authority to execute the laws of the United States. He also has the discretion to execute the laws the way he sees fit. He can execute the laws to the full extent or he can execute them in a more relaxed way. (A prosecutor for the states government or a prosecutor for the federal government has the same discretion.) As a practicing attorney, I have always know that the US Government has always given some aliens more breaks than other aliens in the form of prosecutorial discretion. The recently announced DACA and DAPA are both prosecutorial discretion in other clothing. I read an article that says that it would cost about $60 Billions to deport all the undocumented people. Also based on "due process" of law this would take years to do. The rationale behind recently announced Executive Orders is to allow the government to spend its resources on what it believes to be the hard core criminals.

For those of us who are not United States citizens (USC) please keep in mind that one DWI/DUI is mandatory detention. I have noticed this increased enforcement on DWI/DUI in the last 1.5 weeks or so.

I do not want to suggest do not drink. If you drink, do not drive; plan a sober ride.

Staying Healthy in a Challenging World

    in Health

You name it; we are going to talk about it this week! Today’s show will cover everything from food allergies (did you know that over 55% of North Americans test positive to allergies?)and heavy metal toxicity to bio-identical hormones and homeopathy. I will be discussing this and so much more with Beverly Hills MD, Cathie-Ann Lippman who has been practicing environmental and preventive medicine for almost 30 years and who was a medical resource for Suzanne Somers last bestselling book Ageless. This interview is going to be jam packed with information on how you can stay healthy in a challenging world. Have your pen and paper ready!

Dr. Cathie Lippman has practiced Environmental and Preventive Medicine in Beverly Hills for 20 years. Environmental Medicine regards illness as possibly being a result of sensitivities to foods or chemicals or some other aspect of the environment. Dr. Lippman received her M.D. in 1973 from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. After a pediatric internship at LA County-USC Medical Center, she studied Adult and Child Psychiatry at UCLA and was Board Certified in each specialty in 1980. Dr. Lippman became dissatisfied with the limitations of a purely psychiatric focus. She changed her practice from psychiatry to natural alternative medicine in order to address the whole individual. She wants people to feel empowered to do as much as they can for themselves in a safe manner and believes in educating her patients and explaining what is important for their well-being.
