Izzy Clark is the Fundraising and Marketing Coordinator at Women for Women International, an organisation that supports the most marginalised women in countries affected by war and conflict, helping them to rebuild their lives and play an active role in their communities.
Through a year-long training programme, women develop skills to earn and save money, improve health and wellbeing, influence decisions in their home and community, and connect with networks for support. Izzy has travelled to Afghanistan and Bosnia-Herzegovina to visit WfWI’s programmes and meet women participants and graduates, seeing the impact of the training at first hand.
This program broadcasts from the UK and is hosted by Suparna Malhotra.
Linda Lombardo and Joss Rowlands continue the conversation about what is leadership and how the dark underbelly shows up when we least expect it.
This month's topic: Authentic Leadership - Well, ok, you might say - If it's not authentic, then what is it?
Here's a quote from a 2013 article on leadership: a Forbes article by contributor Kevin Kruse.
"It continues to surprise me how many leaders attempt to be one way at work, while their ‘true’ personality emerges outside of work. Once a CEO reminded me, ‘Leadership is acting.’ And it surprises me when these same leaders seem shocked or confused when their employees don’t trust them, don’t like them, and can’t really wait to work elsewhere." -Kevin Kruse, Forbes
Joss and Linda explore the paradox of authentic leadership within the dark underbelly, or perhaps its the paradox of the dark underbelly within authentic leadership? Please join us to find out.

Applying Complexity Leadership Theory to Drone Airspace Integration
Applying Complexity Leadership Theory to Drone Airspace Integration
This book examines the leadership challenge created by the requirement to integrate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into the national airspace system (NAS). The overall lifecycle of leadership does not lend itself to a simple definition or a defined timeline that anyone can follow. As much as society enjoys creating, all of the processes and technology to simplify our lives (although this is debatable), leadership deals with humans and humans are not that simple. The challenge is that the FAA follows a leadership and change management model that is authoritarian, linear, and evolutionary.

John Maxwell has been a teacher of Leaders for many years. In this show he shares how MOMENTIUM can be your BEST FRIEND!
In a blog he writes:
Momentum is the greatest of all change-agents. When a leader has it, organizational change comes easily, for it’s much simpler to steer a company that’s already experiencing success than to jumpstart one that’s stagnant.
On a team that’s thriving, growing, and delivering results an aura of excitement permeates everything. The momentum is almost tangible. Yet even though we can feel the momentum, it’s hard to define. Let’s take a momentum to pin down where it comes from.
The attitude of the leader + the atmosphere of the organization + the accomplishments of the people = MOMENTUM
Leaders who court momentum display a set of attitudes that help them reach new altitudes. First, they take responsibility for outcomes. They don’t blame failures on their people or on forces beyond their control. Second, leaders who generate momentum operate with an empowering sense of hope. They shape their surroundings instead of merely being shaped by them. They believe in the possibility of change instead of complaining about challenges to it. Finally, leaders who drive momentum have unfailing enthusiasm. They’re convinced of the importance of their work, and this sense of purpose propels them forward.
Leaders build a culture favorable to momentum in the following ways. First, they believe the best about their people—concentrating on developing their strengths rather than on fixing their shortcomings. Second, they provide an inspiring vision that’s contagious. They share it confidently and talk about it continually, until everyone on the team sees it almost as clearly as they do. Third, they remove the fear of failure. They invite risk and affirm innovative ideas—even if they don’t always work.

Last weeks' twin decisions by the U.S. Supreme Ct, 1 upholding Obamacare by a 6-3 majority & the other upholding Gay Marriage by a 5-4 majority have 2 be seen as a major body blow to the Republican Party. While freeing them of the obligation 2 campaign on those issues, overall they come out as the real losers & the upswing is definitely in favor of the Democratic Party in next year's presidential election.
The GOP can't pander to their base with these two vote-getting issues but instead will have to fall back on their free market/small gov't message. Even the anti-immigration stance taken by the GOP establishment, while popular w/older white GOP voters, no longer appears to be championed by the Supreme Ct in light of the rulings on Obamacare and Gay Marriage.
The GOP is basically reduced to "God" & "Guns" for presidential campaign rhetoric. Those 2 issues will generate steam among the party faithful no doubt but w/o Obamacare + Gay Marriage the engine driving the GOP vote turn-out for 2016 will be hampered markedly & any chance of the GOP winning back the White House have now been sizably diminished.
God / guns / ISIS constitute the GOP message in 2016. As far as the one other galvanizing issue 4 the GOP, abortion, the Supreme Ct. today upheld a stay of the new Texas abortion law that would shut down all but a handful of abortion clinics in TX in a 5-4 decision. While the Supreme Ct. has put in place more restrictions on abortion over the last few years, an outright repudiation of Roe v. Wade is becoming less likely.
So, the most likely GOP campaign wedge issue in 2016 will involve foreign policy - but w/more than 13 announced GOP presidential candidates running in 2016 this issue runs the risk of being watered down or overly convoluted.
In a word, the GOP is a fractured party w/a fractured message. They r in disarray + will lose big in 2016!
