Keeping the Foundation Strong and Healthy

    in Spirituality

Bio: My name is Dwayne Martin and I started fitness as a younger child. I was always skinny and hated it so I wanted to make a change to my body. I believed that if I would start lifting that I would get bigger but I also believed that if I lift weights at such a young age that it would stunt my growth therefore I felt I came up with the perfect solution. I started curling the older model lego boxes with the handles and as I progressed I'd put more and more legos in the box. I would also do sit-ups to the point I would challenge my older brother to see who could do the most without resting. As I got older I replaced the lego boxes with 5 pound dumbells and would watch tv while curling the dumbells. I wouldnt counts reps or sets, I would just keep curling until I felt like I couldnt curl the dumbells anymore.

. When I was working out I favored benching so I would lift 2-3 times a day and add atleast 10 pounds a week of additional weight when I bench. I progressed rather quickly until I injured myself due to eccessive lifting but that didn't stop me. I applied pressure to the injury to give support and continued on. I later came to the decision of joining the Army which put my whole lifting career on hold,

. The workouts I performed in the gym became a stress reliever for me so though things were falling apart with my personal life, I found strength though it all and turned my negatives into positives. I then discovered an interest I have in Physique Competitions. I made a promise to myself that I woiuld enter in a competition so after 7 months of working out overseas I gained 33 pounds of muscle then upon arriving home I cut down 13 pounds. When I got home my personal life fell apart but that only drove me to strive even more with my fitness goals as well as shed light on what I want to do as a career and that is to do for others

    More Than a Pro

    in Lifestyle

Levar Fisher is an awarded college athlete who became a successful pro, captaining not one – but two NFL teams, and later taking that leadership role to the stage as a sought – after motivational speaker.  His amazing story has inspired audiences’ nationwide - receiving praise from notables like author and speaker, Les Brown and former Florida State Football Coach, Chuck Amato. Surprisingly, Levar’s rise to the top isn’t because he hasn’t made mistakes...but because he has made the mistakes and has learned how to channel them into positives.

Growing up in a small eastern, North Carolina town, Levar didn’t find a lot to keep him out of trouble or way from a Burger King.  Subsequently, he received his first motivation for success from bullies who made fun of his weight and his dreams of playing professional football.  A few years and lot of hard work later, Levar was recruited by North Carolina State University, attending on a full football scholarship.  He made 1st team All - ACC selection in 1999, claiming that honor again in 2000 and 2001, as well as ACC’s Defensive Player of the year. He was a Butkus Semi Finalist for Best Linebacker in the Country 2000 and 2001, and a 2000 Bronko Nagurski Finalist (Best Defensive Player in the Country).  You don’t become that good as a linebacker without a few tackles (try 492 for a career), and when you are really competitive, you lead the nation in tackles per game with (15.1, 166 for the year).

Today we're going to chat with Levar about his story, the work he does with youth and learn what it means to be "More Than a Pro."
