Politics Done Right - Ballot Access and the unconstitutional behavior of Dem/Rep

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’??s show
Ballot Access and the unconstitutional behavior of Democrats and Republicans
    September 6th, 2014

Politics Done Right has a guest host today. I am sure you will enjoy our most opinionated Coffee Party leader. Bobby Rodrigo will get your thinking juices flowing.

Ballot Access and the unconstitutional behavior of Democrats and Republicans

    ----

Now that Labor Day has passed we are officially in Election Season.  The Congressional Midterms and the various state elections are upon us.  Yet independents and candidates from the Green Party, the Constitution Party and the Libertarian Party are battling to for ballot access.  The Democrats in Illinois have eliminated the Green Party for the Ballot.  The Democrat and Republicans have successfully eliminated any alternative party candidates and independents in New Jersey.  Republicans in Illinois have successfully eliminated the Constitution Party in Illinois and they have sued Libertarian Party State Senate Candidate Gigi Bowman in New York to remove her from the ballot.  The Green Party has sued in Illinois.  All over the country the ballot access continues and the Democrats and the Republicans just don't want to let anyone else play in sandbox.  Guest hosting on Politics Done is Bobby Rodrigo and he will have as one of his guests The Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Georgia Doug Craig to offer his expertise on the ballot access struggles faced by anyone who is not a Democrat or Republican.  Please join us.

What are your thoughts? Let’s  talk. I will also be following our hash-tag #PoliticsDoneRight on Twitter.

Politics Done Right on KPFT - Introducing The Coffee Party

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show
    May 5th, 2014

    Introducing The Coffee Party

Today I will be introducing Jeanene Louden, Coffee Party director and Debilyn Molineaux, newly appointed Coffee Party president.

They will come on and discuss what exactly the Coffee Party is. They will tell us what the future holds for the Coffee Party.

Most importantly they will discuss why the tenets of the Coffee Partyrequire a level of civil discourse. This level of civil discourse foments an environment where everyone irrespective of political association, political party membership, or otherwise feel free to engage.

This is KPFT FM 90.1 Spring Fund Drive season. KPFT is Pacifica Network station that is completely community supported. That brings big benefits. KPFT is not beholden to any corporation direction, mantra, or doctrine. As such we can provide unadulterated truths and unadulterated news, something missing from the mainstream or traditional media. Please call (713) 526-5738 and make a pledge. I have a few books to giveaway with pledges. Please remember you can pledge any amount.

Politics Done Right on KPFT - Journalist Rula Jebreal discusses media bias

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show
    July 28th, 2014

Journalist Rula Jebreal discusses media bias in Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

Rula Jebreal will be the featured guest on Politics Done Right. Rula Jebreal is a journalist, a commentator, and author of Miral, a novel translated into 15 languages, that sold millions of copiesworldwide and a film that was the first ever premiered in the UN General Assembly Hall. She also authored the International Fince Europa Award winning book The Bride of Aswan that was translated into 5 languages. Her third book, Rejected is a non-fiction about immigration in Europe. She wrote and produced the film Permesso di Soggiorno about the death penalty in China, the United States, and Iran during the UN debate on the death penalty in 2008.

Jebreal is the brave journalist that had the spine to go into a mainstream media studio, an MSNBC studio and speak the truth at her own peril. While concurrently writing an article on the refugee crisis on the Texas border and listening to Ronan Farrow Daily on MSNBC, I listened somewhat inattentively as Rula Jebreal gave a spirited narrative on the biased coverage given to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I had not heard such a brave defense and pushback on MSNBC or on any other network. I immediately stopped what I was doing, recorded the interview, and edited it for Internet consumption. I knew the traditional mainstream media would attempt to make it a one day story. The blogosphere would not.

Politics Done Right on KPFT - The politics of religion

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show
    June 30th, 2014

    The politics of religion

I attended the Texas Democratic Convention this weekend. The entire convention was inspiring and filled with energy. I spoke to a woman, an ordained minister who placed religion, politics, policy, and compassion for fellow human beings into context. Maybe the Supreme Court should listen to her after what they did today. Maybe they need to realize that religion has no place in business.

Today is a day that will live in infamy. Everyone knows that the Supreme Court over the years have given corporations progressively more and more human rights. Today the corporation was also given the ability to have a religion.

The Supreme Court in ruling on the side of Hobby Lobby has done two things. It has declared war on women’s rights from the highest court of the land. It has codified into its interpretation of the law that companies like people can go to church. Maybe they will find some way to lock corporations up, throw them in a jail cell when they misbehave.

But you know what? Of more concern is that the Supreme Court has made corporations people with a license to discriminate. They are people with the right to control women. They have authorized a war on women.

Politics Done Right - Make Obamacare the winning message next election

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show

Can Obamacare be the winning message in November?

This was a great week. Contrary to the naysayers, Obamacare crossed the 6 million people mark. This does not include all those that received healthcare for the first time via the Medicaid Expansion to Obamacare nor the 3 million plus young people remaining on their parent’s insurance. This is a good and moral thing. Peoples’ lives are being saved.

Obamacare should be a winning message in November for any politician who is honest about the law. It is time to stop cowering and be bold and support a policy that helps the poor and the working middle class. What do you think?

This week I interviewed Ben Cohen, founder of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, on Move To Amend Reports with cohost Laura Bonham. He is one example of millions of one percent-ers that need to be highlighted. He is not clouded by the need to hoard capital. Ben Cohen is roaming the entire country with his Stamps Stampede campaign building awareness to get money out of politics.

This week it became official. I was awarded a radio show on Houston’s KPFT 90.1 FM. This is one of the largest stations on the Pacifica Network. The show, Politics Done Right on KPFT will air at 9:00 PM Central Standard Time. It starts Monday April 7th, 2014. There will be a warm up show on Monday at 8:00 PM CST.

Politics Done Right on KPFT - Stereotyping Islam hurts us all

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show
    Stereotyping Islam hurts us all
    October 6th, 2014

I am a fan of Bill Maher. He has the canny ability to break through the minutia. His political acumen is generally very good and well thought out. He does however have a weak spot that he needs to correct.

Bill Maher has a following young and not so young. His display of a virulent Islamaphbia is something that Liberals of all stripes must call out and call out strongly.

Over the last several months his rhetoric has been over the top. It is not good for our country. Moreover, he is feeding into the Right Wing politics that have led our country astray.

Politics Done Right - The killing of David Hooks by Georgia police must be told

    in Politics

The epidemic is on going. Sadly because our news media only covers a narrative that suits there current frame other misdeeds by police go unreported or marginally reported. Bobby Rodrigo, host of Coffee Party Radio Show "I take Liberty with my Coffee" brought this story to me. I almost blew my top. How did I miss it. I told Bobby that I would blog the story. The blog post "The execution of this White brother, David Hooks, by police need coverage too" is getting very good coverage.

Today we are doing a combined show. We will start "Politics Done Right w/Egberto Willies" for the first hour and then merge into "I take Liberty with my Coffee w/Bobby Rodrigo." Bobby will be doing the show directly from Dublin, Georgia where he will be attending the "Rally For Justice For David Hooks."

Politics Done Right - Ebola, healthcare, and privilege

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’??s show
    Ebola, Healthcare, and Privilege
    October 11th, 2014

Thomas Eric Duncan died this week from Ebola. He is the first person treated in for Ebola in the US that died. He is also characteristically and otherwise different from all those that survived their own bout with Ebola.

Sadly both Thomas Eric Duncan’s healthcare and death revealed much about our privileged healthcare system. Worst, it shows that American citizenship while not explicitly tiered is definitely implicitly tiered.

Politics Done Right on KPFT - Democratic Candidates Mike Collier & Sam Houston

    in Politics Progressive

    This week’s show
    September 22nd, 2014
Texas Candidates Mike Collier, State Comptroller & Sam Houston, Attorney General

Today it is my honor to present two of the most important Texas statewide candidates.

Mike Collier says he is a “cop on the beat” who built a reputation for rigorous financial analysis, independent decision-making, and a commitment to telling the truth, no matter what. Is that’s what Texas needs right now.

Sam Houston is running for Texas Attorney General. Sam Houston says that as our Attorney General, we can count on him to aggressively defend the rights of all Texans. Sam says he will bring the values he learned as a young man to work every day and will protect the legal rights of Texas businesses and citizens alike.

Both of these candidates have been endorsed by the Austin Americans Statesman.
