ArtSees Productions welcomes Susan Block for a 6 week series, "Conversations On Creativity." Tonight's special guest is Indiana Poet Laureate George Kalamaras.
George Kalamaras was born in Chicago and grew up in Cedar Lake, in Lake County. He has published six books of poetry and one of scholarship including Kingdom of Throat-Stuck Luck, winner of the Elixir Press Poetry Contest, The Recumbent Galaxy, co-authored with Alvaro Cardona-Hine and winner of the C&R Press Open Competition, and The Theory and Function of Mangoes, winner of the Four Way Books Intro Series; six poetry chapbooks; numerous articles in scholarly journals; and more than 725 poems in anthologies and magazines in the U.S and abroad. His work has received numerous honors, including a Creative Writing Poetry Fellowship Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and two Individual Artist Fellowship Grants from the Indiana Arts Commission. In 1994, he received an Indo-U.S. Advanced Research Fellowship to India. Since 1990, he has served as professor of English at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Susan Block brings with her a vast knowledge of the arts and creativity. She is LaPorte County Poet Laureate Emeritus, playwright, writing workshop leader, art exhibition curator and cultural arts advocate. "Conversations On Creativity" is the brainchild of Block.

Real Sisters welcomes former US Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winning poet, Robert Hass for a conversation at the family table.
Host Linda Rez and cohost, Barbara Davis, from Books, So Many Books, have an in-depth conversation with former National Poet Laureate Robert Hass about his life and poetry.
Robert Hass was born in San Francisco in 1941. He attended St. Mary's College and Stanford University. His books of poetry include Time and Materials, for which he received the Pulitzer Prize in 2007 and the National Book Award in 2008; Sun Under Wood, for which he received the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1996; Human Wishes; Praise, for which he received the William Carlos Williams Award in 1979; and Field Guide, which was selected by Stanley Kunitz for the Yale Younger Poets Series.
Hass also worked with Czeslaw Milosz to translate a dozen volumes of Milosz's poetry, including the book-length Treatise on Poetry and, most recently, A Second Space. His translations of the Japanese haiku masters have been collected in The Essential Haiku: Versions of Basho, Buson, and Issa. His books of essays include Twentieth Century Pleasures: Prose on Poetry, which received the National Book Critics Circle Award for criticism in 1984, and Now and Then: The Poet's Choice Columns, 1997-2000.
From 1995 to 1997 he served as poet laureate of the United States. He lives in northern California with his wife, the poet Brenda Hillman, and teaches English at the University of California at Berkeley.

"As Poet Laureate for Youth for Human Rights, my job is to get people knowledgeable and understanding of their rights as declared in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today, artists should be relevant and help create a better culture. I cannot think of anything more relevant than this job.
"However, this is the first time I have endeavored to capture each of the rights poetically (all 30) but also write them in under 140 characters so they can be broadcast through all the social media including Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. in a poetic campaign for human rights and against tyranny."
