Tonight we will be talking about overcoming persecution, the difference between persecution and being reviled and how should we respond. Also we will hear from these brothers about instances where they faced jail time and what we may begin to start seeing more of in America when it comes to the silencing of Christianity.
Many of us know that we are living in the end times, because we can see signs of the times all around us.
And one of those signs that's growing more and more prevalent is the persecution of Christians, so stay tuned to learn how to prepare for persecution!
We will look at: 1. The reason for Persecution, 2. The result of Persecution and finally 3. Our godly response to Persecution
What is perscution? Is it someone talking bad about you? Is it touching God's anointed? Has Western Christianity suffered from persecution? What do believers who live in countries where Christianity is illegal, and the open practice of it may have deadly consequences, think when they hear Western Christians say they are being persecuted? Would you consider these things persecution; no prayers in schools, the removal of the 10 commandments from government buidlings, the taking down of nativity scenes, pro gay marriage laws being passed. It seems that whenever the ekklesia was under the threat of real persecution, it thrived and grew. What happend, when the persecution stopped? Breakfast with Randall & Stacy: Romans 4:4-6 & Christian Persecution Update
Stephen concluded his "defense" by accusing his accusers of: hard heartedness, closed ears and resisting the Holy Spirit. They were guilty of imitating their fathers. Just like the fathers had persecuted and killed the prophets (who promised Jesus), now they had murdered the One whom those prophets promised and they were persecuting the followers of their Messiah. He further accused them of trampling on the very word they embraced as "heaven-sent."
With an intensity of rage that can never be found in a godly man they assailed Stephen, dragged him out of the city and bludgeoned him to death with heavy stones. Saul watched.
This murder was like punching a hole in a dam. All the pent up rage and fury at this new "movement" came out in a torrent, sweeping away lives and property. God's people suffered great loss: families were torn apart and survivors were scattered from home, property and loved ones.
If God truly loves His people, how could He let this happen?
Dr. J. Paul Nyquist (ThM, PhD) is the ninth president of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL and has served in missions, as a local pastor, and as a professor. He and his wife Cheryl, have been married for over 30 years and are the parents of four grown children.
The Tipping point has been reached... what now?
Marriage: redefined. Religious freedoms: eroding. The church: marginalized. How should we respond?
It's time to prepare - prepare for a future none of us could have imagined just a few years ago. Paul Nyquist will help you understand how to live faithfully in this new America. You'll find answers to questions like:
- Are we really persecuted?
- What does the bible say about persecution?
- How should I then live?
Join the Hitman at "On Target For God" as we learn about the "MINISTRY OF PERSECUTION" as to why tests, trials, and severe mistreatment comes and is necessary for the Christian lifestyle. How do you make sense out of persecution and why do others seek to persecute you for any reason at all? Is there a greater purpose at work behind it for a greater glory? We will examine examples of persecution from the Holy Scriptures and also look at more present day examples as it relates to our daily lives. Tune in live Monday August 11th at 7:30pm EST, 6:30pm CST, 5:30pm MST, & 4:30pm PST.
