Indie Cafe & Red Velvet Media ; Eilon Paz, Dust & Grooves !

    in Entertainment

Dust & Grooves: Adventures in Record Collecting is an inside look into the world of vinyl record collectors in the most intimate of environments—their record rooms. It all started out several years ago as nothing more than a way for photographer Eilon Paz to make use of his idle hours. Adrift in Brooklyn after emigrating from Israel, Eilon—a record collector on the side—thought it might be fun to start taking photos of people whose record collections were both larger and weirder than his own.

Adopting this as his personal project, he began traveling the world, from Australia to Cuba and Argentina to Ghana, in pursuit of intriguing and memorable subjects. Unearthing the very soul of the vinyl community, the assembly of portraits he created quickly turned into the Dust & Grooves website.

In the summer of 2012, Eilon launched a Kickstarter campaign that funded his road trip to shoot collectors throughout the American heartland, and since then, the project has been embraced by many friends and supporters who have volunteered to work with Eilon along the way. This year, Dust & Grooves expands even further, complementing the website’s cloud with a physical book that profiles over 130 vinyl collectors with photographic essays and in-depth interviews.

Dust & Grooves has engaged and connected the underground community of record collectors. As well as becoming a go-to place for vinyl lovers, it maintains the integrity and history of vinyl, as well as the musical heritage that goes along with every record in these collections. As technology moves forward and many music formats go digital, Eilon’s endeavor helps keep the rich, warm, analog life of vinyl spinning.

Episode Forty-two... Who is Anthony Marques?

    in Hobbies

    Wolfers:

If you have read any of the new 52 from DC comics in the last year or so then you may have already read a book that tonight's guest had his hands in.  Anthony Marques had been the assitant editor at DC comics working on such flagship titles as Superman, World's Finest, Teen Titans and many others. Then in July of last year he made a major decision to leave DC and head out on his own to work as a freelance artist and recently his first book was just released with Dynamite Comics titled, "Agents of the Shadow."  This talented illustrator has graciously agreed to put fatherhood, drawing and all the other things life throws at you on the back burner for about a half an hour or so to share some of his great comic book stories with you our listeners.

After that the boys at the Den are going to discuss the idea of collecting vs investing and how both can be rewarding in their own way and if that's not enough, we hope to introduce to you a new voice and perspective at the Den.  Jess, a new co-host will be joining us to talk about geek girls, transformers and perhaps if we're lucky even a little bit of Star Wars.  So what are you waiting for?  Oh, right Tuesday night...see you then.

When does collecting become a burden in life - 3/2/2015

    in Hobbies

Tonight we will explore the topic of when does collecting become a burden rather than a joy.  A post on Facebook a few weeks ago brought this topic to mind.  A person was becoming burdened by collecting all of the ponys and that it was becoming a financial and space burden to her.  We will discuss this type and other types on MLP Talk we get serious.

Also join us for our wacky conversations.

Please note that we maybe late in starting our topic due to issues beyond our control.  If co-hosts are not yet at their computers or we get distracted please bare with us.  We are not always perfect.  PONY HUGS.

Also if we continue to be off topic we will change the topic of the show to reflect that.  Also we don't take random callers due to the issues we have had with random people in the chat rooms.  We keep this a family friendly show and want to keep it that way.
