    Reality: Nehemiah 9:5-7

    in Christianity

I love the adventure of the word of God.  Spread out over all of history, intriguing in its details and omissions, the Bible brings us to a higher plane, the ultimate clarity of reality.  Nehemiah 9:5-7 is one of those passages that describes the greater reality of God as Lord and sustainer of His vast creation.  It describes The Lord as the foundation of all that is true.  When we accept this reality the one choice we must. Nehemiah’s Grief for the Exiles (Nehemiah 1:1-11)

    in Christianity

    TEXTS

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.

Now it happened in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, while I was in Susa the capitol, that Hanani, one of my brothers, and some men from Judah came; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped and had survived the captivity, and about Jerusalem.

They said to me, “The remnant there in the province who survived the captivity are in great distress and reproach, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates are burned with fire.”

When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

I said, “I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who preserves the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned against You; I and my father’s house have sinned.

We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. Remember the word which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful I will scatter you among the peoples; but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.’

They are Your servants and Your people whom You redeemed by Your great power and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I beseech You, may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to revere Your name, and make Your...

    Nehemiah Project - Part 6

    in Spirituality

Nehemiah 8:9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.”For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law. 10 Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” 11 The Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for this is a holy day. Do not grieve.” 12 Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.

The Gates of Spiritual Progression; Study of Book of Nehemiah Pt. 3

    in Religion

This study is not about history however. It’s about today and our Christian life. I believe the Holy Spirit has placed within this book key characters and events that reveal to us today the basis of our walk and warfare as Christians.  What you will find however are important steps that this book teaches us in how to overcome our three deadly enemies – Satan, the world and our old sinful nature. The basis of this study then, revolves around certain key individuals, their character, and the work that they were attempting to do. Obviously, the main character is Nehemiah himself, whose job it was to rebuild the wall and its gates. While he had many enemies, the three most prominent were Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem. So to understand what this book is about, and especially how it could possibly relate to us today, we have to start by defining these key components first.

Continuing the Nehemiah Discussion: "Staying on the Wall"

    in Christianity

    Greetings bloglisteners,

During our New Year's broadcast, we reflected on Nehemiah's building the ruined walls of Jerusalem, and how he couldn't come down because he was "doing a good work." He built with intention; he had reasons for what he was doing. Continuing this discussion, this episode looked more specifically at defining what purpose means. We also Biblically considered challenges and traps Nehemiah encountered that we also might encounter that can take us away from purposeful living.

We can not come off that wall if we are "doing a good work"! Give it a listen!

In this broadcast, we also took time to focus on a modern Nehemiah, so-to-speak, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His courage and persistence helped our nation move forward in so many ways, and helped bring dignity to people of color across this great land! There are always improvements and changes we can make in this country of ours, but he helped us to move forward together.

    Be blessed,

    The J Man
