in Indie Music
In today's copy and paste music world, you don't hear too many rappers who value giving their audience an experience they've never had before. Yet that's exactly the path that Nehemiah Heckler has chosen to take. But the Chicago area lyricist is no stranger to going off the beaten path; his beats and rhymes are as unconventional and far reaching as his objective.
Nehemiah's goal is to bring hope to a searching generation by creating music that is steeped in the universal themes of courage, faith, and finding your purpose.

Nehemiah and Restoration of the Law (Nehemiah 10:28-39)
As Nehemiah and the restored Israelites re-establish their nation, one of the first things they do is re-iterate the tenets of the regulations acknowledging the Lord as their God. This includes the restoration of the tithe (they were not tithing or keeping any of the commandments of the Lord in captivity, previous to entering the land). Again, tithes to the priests was specifically mentioned, as well as the tithes being stored in the temple. Nehemiah even added ordinances concerning payment for specific needs of the temple. (These things may have been more expensive than they were in Moses' day.)
Nehemiah and Enforcement of the Law (Nehemiah 12:44-13:14)
Nehemiah relates some political intrigue regarding the leadership, both political and religious, which contributed to the apostasy of the nation. He gathers together the (genealogically) appointed leaders and puts them back to the work they are supposed to be doing, as well as gathering the Levites, calling them to return from working in the fields instead of ministering to the Lord. He also records how he clears out the storeroom for the tithe, restores it to the Levites, asks the Lord to remember him for his good deeds, and condemns Israel for having failed to keep God's commandments (immediately following this section Nehemiah gets on their case for working on the Sabbath, so he is definitely not picking out one area of the law to emphasize.)
Amos and Tithing to Idols (Amos 3:12-4:7)
The prophet Amos, speaking for God, lists tithing and sacrifice to idols (at Bethel and Gilgal) as one of their crimes against Him. Clearly, it was not just tithing that was important.
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, while I was in Susa the capitol, that Hanani, one of my brothers, and some men from Judah came; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped and had survived the captivity, and about Jerusalem. They said to me, “The remnant there in the province who survived the captivity are in great distress and reproach, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates are burned with fire.”
When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. I said, “I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who preserves the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned against You; I and my father’s house have sinned.
We have acted very corruptly against You and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. Remember the word which You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful I will scatter you among the peoples; but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.’
They are Your servants and Your people whom You redeemed by Your great power and by Your strong hand. O Lord, I beseech You, may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to revere Your name, and make Your servant successful today...
Nehemiah Ben Israel returns to talk about the spell the black man is under. As he previously said, the black man is still a slave and as such acts contrary to what he was destined to be; i.e., an Israelite. Tonight we will speak to Nehemiah about warring factions and how do a peaceful people avoid invading forces.

I love the adventure of the word of God. Spread out over all of history, intriguing in its details and omissions, the Bible brings us to a higher plane, the ultimate clarity of reality. Nehemiah 9:5-7 is one of those passages that describes the greater reality of God as Lord and sustainer of His vast creation. It describes The Lord as the foundation of all that is true. When we accept this reality the one choice we must. Are in this life becomes clear
